Washington will always stand with West Jerusalem, the US president has stated

The International Criminal Court lacks jurisdiction over Israel and should not consider it equivalent with Hamas in any way, the White House and the State Department both said Monday.

ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant – as well as Hamas leaders Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri, and Ismail Haniyeh – of “war crimes and crimes against humanity” in Gaza and Israel.

“The ICC prosecutor’s application for arrest warrants against Israeli leaders is outrageous,” US President Joe Biden said in a written statement. “And let me be clear: whatever this prosecutor might imply, there is no equivalence – none – between Israel and Hamas.  We will always stand with Israel against threats to its security.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken also responded to the ICC announcement, saying that the US “fundamentally rejects” its “shameful” attempt to equate Israel with Hamas, which he called a “brutal terrorist organization that carried out the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.”

The ICC “has no jurisdiction over this matter,” Blinken insisted, noting that the court has previously deferred to national judiciaries, and questioned “the legitimacy and credibility of this investigation.”

The announcement doesn’t help, and could hurt, the efforts to reach a ceasefire, secure the release of hostages, and provide more humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in Gaza, Blinken added.

Netanyahu has denounced Khan’s request as a “political outrage” that will not stop Israel from waging war against Hamas. An unnamed official from his cabinet described the ICC prosecutor’s move earlier on Monday as a “baseless blood libel against Israel” and “lawfare efforts against the lone Jewish state and the only democracy in the Middle East.”

Mentioning Netanyahu and Gallant “alongside the vile Nazi-like monsters of Hamas [is] a historical disgrace that will be remembered forever,” said Foreign Minister Israel Katz, while Justice Minister Yariv Levin slammed the move as “one of the greatest moral disgraces in human history,” and suggested that the “attempt to deny the State of Israel the right to self-defense” was an expression of “modern anti-Semitism and hatred of Jews wherever they are.”

The ICC “equates the victim with the executioner” and could encourage Israel to continue its “war of extermination” in Gaza, Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri has told Reuters.

Washington has a law allowing “any means necessary” to defend American troops and allies from ICC warrants, a dozen US Senators wrote to the ICC earlier this month, implying that Khan and others might find themselves targeted by the “Hague invasion act.”

Bally's Atlantic City Refuses To Pay 72 Year Old $2 Million Jackpot Due To "Technical Glitch"

    The house always wins...

A 72 year old woman who hoped to take her winnings to 'buy a trailer' for her son is being told by Bally's in Atlantic City that the $2 million jackpot she claims she won was invalid and the result of a 'technical glitch'.

As a result, Bally's - along with game manufacturer IGT - are refusing to pay the money out.

Gambler Roney Beal told 6ABC in an Action News Investigation that "at the end of February, she went to Bally's and dumped hundreds of dollars into a Wheel of Fortune machine".

Then, according to her, the unthinkable happened. She hit a $1.2 million jackpot - with a 2x multiplier. "And it went off, says, 'you're a winner' and gold coins popped out. This very nice guy says, 'Oh my God, you hit, you hit!' He said, 'Lady you're a millionaire.' And I'm like, 'Oh my God!'"

After the slot went off, she hit the 'service' button - and that's when the machine displayed a "tilt" message.

Beal told ABC: "That's when the sentences came up 'tilted'. When the man came over to talk to me he said, 'Lady, get it in your head, you won nothing.'"

Beal's machine, on the right, showing a 2x wheel spin and the arrow landing on "jackpot".

The casino told her the machine had a 'reel tilt' which voided her win. She said the slot attendant asked her to "spin it off" but she refused. "He had it rolling real slow. He had it opened and then he is pushing it," she told ABC.

The attendant then offered her $350. Her attorney, Mike Dicroce, said: "They fooled with the machine before anybody else had the opportunity to take a look at this."

"You invite somebody to your business. They pay the money, they win, you're supposed to pay. That didn't happen," he added, claiming he has gone to the New Jersey Game Enforcement Division over the incident.

He has asked to "preserve the machine and casino floor videos for an independent forensic review," the report says.

A similar incident happened in 2000, he said: "IGT took the position that look even though aesthetically these symbols came up it wasn't a win because the computer says it wasn't a win." In that case, a jury decided IGT had to pay the $1.3 million jackpot.

"Why would I ever go to a casino again in my life? Any casino? Why, if there is no hope," Beal concluded.

In a book by pro-life writer Janet Morana, Mary Kominsky gives her testimony of abortion.

Mary Kominsky had an abortion after the father of her baby abandoned her. It was before Roe v. Wade, but abortion was legal in New York.

    Misled by Planned Parenthood

Kominsky went to Planned Parenthood, and the abortionist misled her about the development of her preborn baby.

    Kominsky says:

Fear had led me to the belief in the lies surrounding abortion…After all, the doctor at Planned Parenthood told me it was just a clump of cells and tissue even though I was 11 weeks pregnant.

Technically, the abortion doctor wasn’t lying. Everyone who reads this is a clump of cells and tissue. We all are. That is what human beings are made of.

Follow LifeNews.com on Instagram for pro-life pictures and videos.

But the worker’s words hid the true nature of Kominsky’s preborn baby.

    Fetal Development at 11 Weeks

At the time of the abortion, Kominsky’s baby had had a beating heart for 8 weeks. He or she had a brain that was giving off waves.   A baby at 11 weeks responds to touch showing a startle reaction when he or she is touched with something.

She can have the hiccups. She is already right or left-handed. She has lungs and “breathes” amniotic fluid to practice breathing air when she is born.

He or she not only had hands and fingers but also fingerprints. These fingerprints marked him or her as a unique individual who had never existed before and will never exist again.

This baby would have been somebody’s best friend, and possibly someone’s husband or wife.

Here is a picture of a preborn baby close to the age of the one Kominsky aborted:

ultrasound of baby at 10 wks 4 days Endowment for Human Development

Kominsky writes that that to have the abortion “I had to detach my mind, my heart, and my emotions. In shutting these off, my heart hardened and turned cold.”

    The Abortion’s Aftermath

The abortion worker promised Kominsky she could “go on with her life as if nothing had happened.” But Kominsky says, “[J]ust the opposite came true.”

She writes about her emotional trauma:

Following the procedure, I was deeply traumatized as fear turned into guilt and shame. It was not a simple surgical procedure as I had been promised…

Initially, there is a relief of not having to face uncertainty, but that often turns to great sadness. I became angry and resentful to all those around me. I had a deep shame and a profound sense of loss.

Kominsky is one of many brave post-abortive women who have come forward with their stories to show how toxic abortion is to both the mother and the baby. Hopefully, her story will help other pregnant people to choose life, and avoid the trauma of abortion.

How Iran Used An Advanced Turkish Drone To Find Raisi's Helicopter

    Via Middle East Eye

A Turkish high-altitude, long-endurance drone played a central role in finding the wreckage of the helicopter that was carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his delegation on Sunday night.

Iranian search and rescue officials reported late on Sunday evening that they believed the helicopter had made a "hard landing" in Iran's East Azerbaijan province. However, progress was hindered for several hours due to adverse weather conditions, including dense fog and rain. Turkish Transportation Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu highlighted another complicating factor: the helicopter either did not have its transponder on or lacked one entirely.

An Akinci drone seen from an Azerbijani Mikoyan MiG-29, AFP/handout

"We track every aerial signal since Iran is part of the area we are responsible for in search-and-rescue operations," Uraloglu told Turkish media on Monday. "But we couldn’t get any signal at all. It must have been received, but it didn’t happen." As the search ramped up and proved so tricky, Tehran asked Ankara for assistance.

“Tehran requested a night vision search-and-rescue helicopter and technical help," a Turkish diplomatic source told Middle East Eye. Subsequently, the Turkish defense ministry announced it had allocated an Akinci high-altitude, long-endurance drone to aid in the search.

Turkish security sources said the defense ministry proposed deploying the Akinci to the area even without an official request from Iranian authorities, who quickly accepted the offer. The sources said the Akinci took off from the armed drone air base in eastern Turkey's Batman at 11.18 pm.

The Akinci, a model produced by the Turkish drone manufacturer Baykar since 2019, can fly at altitudes of up to 40,000 feet and remain airborne for more than 24 hours, covering vast areas.

"Akinci has capabilities to operate in hard terrain and foggy weather thanks to its high-altitude flight capabilities and thermal technology," a defense industry source told MEE. "It is a very good match in this sense."

The drone, which is capable of reaching speeds of up to 400 kmph and efficiently scanning terrain at lower speeds, crossed the Iranian border from the Turkish city of Van, arriving in Iran at 12:45 am on Monday. The defense ministry sources said the drone was able to operate when all other aircraft were grounded because of the bad weather.

As the Akinci commenced its surveillance mission, Turkish public news agency Anadolu launched a live stream on X, formerly known as Twitter, showcasing footage from the drone. The stream attracted 3.1 million viewers at its peak.

At 2:22 am, the Akinci reported its first heat source, instantly sharing the image with Iranian officials. Rescue workers were only able to reach the wreckage at 5.46 am.

    — TRT World (@trtworld) May 20, 2024

A source familiar with the Akinci operation told MEE that the crash site was close to the area the drone had repeatedly surveyed throughout the night. The coordinates suggested by the Akinci were in close proximity to the crash site, the source added.

As weather conditions improved, the Akinci returned to Turkey, arriving around 6 am. The drone drew a crescent and star over Van Lake on flight radar, symbolizing Turkish capabilities. On Monday, some noted on X that the Akinci's initial route into Iran through Tabriz appeared to include a flight path over sensitive Iranian military sites, such as the Amand rocket site, Khoi Airport, Tabriz Airport, and the Iranian army’s rapid response base.

Beijing has pushed back against Washington’s “groundless” claims it is arming Moscow’s troops

Washington is deliberately prolonging the Ukraine conflict and seeking to profit from it, while “smearing” Beijing with false accusations, the Chinese deputy envoy to the UN told the Security Council on Monday.

During the meeting on the Ukraine conflict, Ambassador Geng Shuang addressed US claims that China was supplying Russia with weapons components, calling them “groundless” and “totally unacceptable.”

“China is not the creator, or a party to the Ukraine crisis,” said Geng. “Nor have we provided lethal weapons to any party in the conflict. We have not done… what the US has done, which is to deliberately prolong the fighting and profit from the crisis. We will not do that.”

The Chinese diplomat warned that the fighting in Ukraine is being prolonged by large quantities of weapons and ammunition of “expanding variety and scope,” supplied to Kiev by the US and its allies. Meanwhile, Beijing has consistently advocated for a ceasefire and a diplomatic settlement of the crisis.

“Weapons may end wars, but they do not bring about lasting peace,” Geng told the Security Council.

Read more China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin. China slams US for ‘shifting blame’ over Ukraine conflict

He reiterated Beijing’s position that US and EU sanctions on Chinese companies doing business with Russia are unilateral and illegitimate.

“China has a right to carry out normal economic and trade cooperation with all countries in the world, including with Russia, and such cooperation should not be interfered with or undermined,” the diplomat said. “We urge the US to stop attacking, smearing, and slandering China and spreading fabrications, and stop unilateral sanctions against, and unreasonable suppression of, Chinese enterprises.”

While the US and its allies have poured over $200 billion worth of weapons, equipment and ammunition into Ukraine – while insisting that does not make them party to the hostilities – they have repeatedly accused China of helping the Russian military by exporting dual-use goods, and threatened Beijing with sanctions.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry addressed the accusations directly last week, telling Washington that “diverting attention and shifting the blame is not the right way” to solve the conflict.

On Monday, Geng added that the US needs to “stop taking advantage of the Ukraine crisis to advance its geopolitical strategy, provoke bloc confrontation, and serve its own agenda.”

There are three things certain in life: death, taxes, and self-styled fact-checkers defending Democrats on late-term abortion. The latest example came on Friday from D.L. Davis, who gave Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson a “false” label for claiming “Every Senate Democrat has voted to support unlimited abortions up to the moment of birth.”

Johnson’s office cited the Democrats’ 2022 Women’s Health Protection Act and Davis took exception to the use of the word “every,” writing “[Sen. Joe] Manchin, R-W.Va. [sic], voted no along with Republican senators on the measure. The vote was 49 Yes and 51 No.”

It’s ironic that Davis tried to shame Johnson for saying “every” Democrat voted for it when the truth is everyone, but one did and Davis and his editors couldn’t even get Manchin’s party letter label correct.

Regardless, Davis also cited Johnson’s office for claiming “the measure ‘would enshrine abortion into law up until the moment of birth and block state laws with protections against late-term abortions.’”

Follow LifeNews.com on Instagram for pro-life pictures and videos.

Davis simply replied, “That’s wrong.” He also added, “On the contrary, the measure — which has not become law — protects the right to an abortion up until the point of fetal viability, which is roughly reached at 24 weeks of pregnancy.”

He further writes, “After that point, the legislation protects the right to abortion only “when, in the good-faith medical judgment of the treating health care provider, continuation of the pregnancy would pose a risk to the pregnant patient’s life or health,” according to the bill’s text.”

If one were to try to be as neutral as possible, as all good fact-checkers should, Davis could reasonably say the bill did not mandate the reversal of state laws banning late-term abortions, but to say the bill does not protect “abortion into law up until the moment of birth” is also wrong.

The bill allows blue states to permit it, which some do. For Davis, such concerns are not important, “‘Abortion ‘up to the moment of birth’ simply doesn’t happen.’ [Washington Sen. Patty] Murray said in an email to PolitiFact Wisconsin. ‘Abortions later in pregnancy are extraordinarily rare and occur essentially only when a pregnancy is nonviable and the mother risks severe injury or death by remaining pregnant.’”

Talking points about late-term abortion being rare do not refute claims that a bill permits it. If late-term abortions are so rare and only done for legitimate medical reasons, why is it so hard for national Democrats to write in a provision to their bills banning elective abortions after viability?

The Turkish president faces a difficult time of internal instability and a foreign policy tightrope between Russia and the West

On May 15, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed members of parliament with a statement about a new attempted coup in the country. He said the alleged conspirators were supporters of preacher Fethullah Gulen, who resides in the US.

The day before, according to Turkish media reports, law enforcement conducted searches at the Ankara Security Directorate and the homes of high-ranking officials. As a result of the raids, a group of police officers was detained on suspicion of “conspiracy to commit a crime.” Later, the Ankara prosecutor’s office announced the start of an investigation into three officers from the capital’s police department regarding their connection with the leader of an organized crime group, Ayhan Bora Kaplan.

The same day, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya posted on X (formerly Twitter) about a large-scale police operation in 62 provinces of the country, during which 544 people, presumably linked to Gulen, were detained. The next day, Yerlikaya warned on social media that Turkish law enforcement would identify and hold accountable all conspirators within government institutions.

On May 14, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Erdogan’s ally in the parliamentary coalition, Devlet Bahceli, was the first to inform the parliament about a possible coup attempt. He stated that some law enforcement officers were trying to repeat the events of the failed military coup of 2016 and called not to limit the response to merely dismissing “a few police officers.”

Read more Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan attends a press conference at the end of the Rome G20 Summit, on October 31, 2021 in Rome, Italy. Türkiye at a crossroads: Is the Erdogan era over?

From allies to adversaries: The relationship between Erdogan and Gulen

In recent years, Turkish authorities have frequently spoken about Gulenists who “failed to achieve their goals in 2016 and continue to harm the country.” But what led to such mutual intolerance?

Fethullah Gulen, a Turkish cleric born in 1941, founded the Hizmet movement, also known as the Gulen movement, in the late 1960s. The movement emphasizes moderate Islam, education, and community service, and has a global presence with schools and cultural centers in over 160 countries. Since 1999, Gulen has lived in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania, US. The Hizmet movement continues to operate worldwide, though its activities in Türkiye are severely restricted.

The early 2000s marked a period of rapprochement between Erdogan and Gulen, two prominent figures in Türkiye’s Islamist movement. Erdogan, a former member of the Islamist Welfare Party, co-founded the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2001. Gulen and his Hizmet movement focused on moderate Islam and interfaith dialogue.

Initially, Erdogan and Gulen found common ground in their opposition to Türkiye’s secular establishment, which was deeply entrenched in the military and judicial system. Both aimed to reduce the influence of the Kemalist elite and promote more Islam-oriented governance. The Gulen movement provided significant support to the AKP, including mobilizing voters and embedding loyalists within the state apparatus. In return, Erdogan’s government allowed Gulen-affiliated institutions, such as schools and media outlets, to thrive, helping the AKP consolidate power.

Over time, differences in their visions for Türkiye’s future and power-sharing dynamics began to create friction. Erdogan’s drive to centralize power conflicted with Gulen’s extensive influence in the judiciary, police, and media. By 2010, relations began to deteriorate, especially after the 2010 constitutional referendum, which both initially supported. The referendum increased the government’s control over the judiciary, later contributing to the power struggle between the AKP and the Gulen movement.

The first major public fallout occurred during the MIT crisis in 2012, when prosecutors linked to Gulen attempted to interrogate Hakan Fidan, then head of Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and a close Erdogan ally. Erdogan saw this as a direct challenge to his authority. The conflict escalated dramatically in December 2013 when a corruption investigation targeted Erdogan’s inner circle, including his family and cabinet members. Erdogan accused Gulenists of orchestrating the probes to undermine his government, leading to a significant purge of alleged Gulen supporters from the police and judiciary.

Following the 2013 corruption scandal, Erdogan intensified his crackdown on the Gulen movement. He labeled the movement a “parallel state” and an existential threat to Türkiye’s sovereignty. The government shut down Gulen-affiliated media outlets, schools, and businesses, with thousands of alleged Gulenists arrested or dismissed from public service. Public accusations became more frequent and severe. Erdogan accused Gulen of leading a shadowy organization aimed at overthrowing the government. In 2014, Gulen was charged with leading a terrorist organization. The AKP government sought Gulen’s extradition from the US, a request that remained unfulfilled.

The 2016 coup attempt in Türkiye

By 2016, the relationship between Erdogan and Gulen had turned into open hostility. The failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016, was the culmination of this animosity.

Read more RT ‘We are in danger because of NATO membership’: Turkish Patriotic party is sounding the alarm

Under President Erdogan, Türkiye has experienced increasing political polarization. His ruling party, the AKP, centralized power, alienating many factions within Turkish society, including secularists, Kurds, and even some Islamists who felt marginalized. Historically, the Turkish military saw itself as the guardian of secularism and Kemalist principles. Erdogan’s push for more Islam-oriented policies and his efforts to reduce the military’s influence through purges and reforms created significant friction.

Economic difficulties and social unrest further fueled discontent. Rising unemployment, inflation, and issues such as the Kurdish question and the Syrian refugee crisis created an atmosphere of instability. The coup attempt rapidly unfolded on the night of July 15, 2016. Late in the evening, a faction within the Turkish Armed Forces attempted to seize control of key institutions and infrastructure, including bridges in Istanbul, government buildings in Ankara, and media outlets. They declared martial law and imposed a curfew.

President Erdogan’s response was swift and resolute. In the early hours of the coup, he addressed the nation via a FaceTime call on CNN Türk, urging people to take to the streets to resist the coup plotters. This call to action played a significant role in mobilizing thousands of citizens to confront the military. Erdogan, who was vacationing in Marmaris, managed to evade capture and flew back to Istanbul, landing amid ongoing chaos. His return significantly boosted the morale of loyalist forces and civilians.

By the morning of July 16, the uprising had been suppressed, and Erdogan initiated a sweeping purge of suspected coup supporters. These included not only military personnel but also thousands of judges, civil servants, teachers, and police officers accused of ties to the Hizmet movement. The government declared a state of emergency, which lasted for two years, granting Erdogan broad powers to arrest, detain, and dismiss individuals perceived as threats to the state. The coup attempt allowed Erdogan to further consolidate his power. Constitutional changes were enacted, transforming Türkiye from a parliamentary system to a presidential one, significantly expanding Erdogan’s executive powers.

The coup attempt was a dramatic and violent event rooted in deep political, military, and social tensions. President Erdogan’s swift and decisive response not only quashed the coup but also led to significant restructuring of Türkiye’s political landscape. The aftermath saw widespread suppression of dissent and consolidation of power, which in the following years, fundamentally changed Turkish governance and society.

Do the Gulenists want to overthrow Erdogan again?

After the 2016 military coup attempt, Turkish officials and the public repeatedly claimed that Western countries were involved in anti-government activities. They asserted that Western nations were aiding Gulen’s supporters and exerting pressure on Turkish authorities. These statements are based on the belief that the more President Erdogan pursued an independent policy and defended Ankara’s interests, which did not always align with Western countries, the more NATO pressured Türkiye. Although the West condemned the coup attempt, Gulen was never extradited, which worsened relations with Ankara.

The conditions under which the 2016 and 2024 coup attempts occurred are similar. The country is experiencing economic instability, high inflation, a decline in real incomes, currency devaluation, and the massive presence of refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, and other countries. All these factors polarize society and create tension. The municipal elections held in March led to the ruling party’s first defeat in two decades and caused a split within it. The intra-coalition struggle between the MHP, led by Devlet Bahceli, and Erdogan’s supporters in the AKP is intensifying. There is a trend towards Erdogan’s rapprochement with the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), which gained the majority of seats in major cities and the capital.

This time, the coup attempt was more covert and less effective. The authorities actively engaged in purging individuals sympathetic to Gulen and implemented significant transformations within the military. This was a crucial step in Erdogan’s fight against his opponents, as the history of the Turkish Republic shows that real coups are most often carried out by the military, and the authorities managed to address this issue.

Read more RT Türkiye first: How Erdogan’s policies evolved from EU-aligned reforms to conservative Islamism

The external context also plays an important role. After the defeat in the municipal elections and the worsening economic situation, Ankara began seeking support from Western countries. However, Washington and Brussels are in no hurry to back their important NATO partner. They are betting on the opposition to Erdogan and trying to get rid of him. It is known that the “democracies of the world” are willing to go to great lengths for their interests, so they might covertly support internal unrest in Türkiye if it helps remove the current government.

Thus, strained relations between Türkiye and the West, suspicions of involvement in anti-government activities, and internal economic problems create a complex political environment in the country. These factors continue to influence Türkiye’s domestic and foreign policy, shaping the future of the state in conditions of ongoing instability.

The situation in Türkiye remains complex and multifaceted, reflecting deep political, social, and economic issues exacerbated by suspicions of foreign interference and internal discord. The 2016 and 2024 coup attempts demonstrate how economic instability, social tension, and political struggle can explosively combine, creating a breeding ground for crises. Erdogan, seeking to consolidate his power, faces serious challenges both domestically and internationally.

With deteriorating relations with the West and ongoing internal polarization, Türkiye’s future remains uncertain. It is important for the country to actively participate in the construction of a new world order, taking into account its strategic interests and role on the international stage. Türkiye is faced with the necessity of making a choice in the global confrontation between Russia and the West, requiring its leaders to take a nuanced and strategic approach.

Thus, Türkiye must find a balance between internal stability and foreign policy aimed at strengthening its position in the world. This will require significant efforts from its leaders and society to achieve prosperity in a changing global landscape.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have been accused of committing war crimes in Gaza

Top Israeli officials have expressed outrage over the International Criminal Court chief prosecutor’s request that warrants be issued for the arrest of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

On Monday, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan stated that there are “reasonable grounds to believe” that the Israeli leader and his defense minister are guilty of “war crimes and crimes against humanity” due to their complicity in the IDF’s military operation in Gaza. Khan announced that he is officially seeking warrants for the arrest of Netanyahu and Gallant, as well as three Hamas officials.

In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz called Khan’s request an “unrestrained direct attack” on the victims of the October 7 Hamas massacre which prompted the IDF’s response.

“While Hamas murderers and rapists commit crimes against humanity, against our brothers and sisters, the [ICC] prosecutor mentions in the same breath the prime minister and defense minister of Israel alongside the vile Nazi-like monsters of Hamas – a historical disgrace that will be remembered forever,” Katz said in a statement which was quoted by the Times of Israel.

Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin slammed the move as “one of the greatest moral disgraces in human history,” and suggested that the “attempt to deny the State of Israel the right to self-defense” was an expression of “modern anti-Semitism and hatred of Jews wherever they are.”

Read more Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Asad Ahmad Khan. ICC chief prosecutor seeks arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas leaders

Netanyahu, speaking at a meeting of legislators from his Likud Party, called Khan’s proposal a “political outrage” and stated that regardless of the ICC’s decision, Israel will continue its operation in Gaza “until the hostages are released and Hamas is destroyed.”

Earlier on Monday, an unnamed official within Netanyahu’s office also told the Times of Israel that the ICC prosecutor’s move is “baseless blood libel against Israel [that] has crossed a red line in [Khan’s] lawfare efforts against the lone Jewish state and the only democracy in the Middle East.”

Israeli war cabinet minister Benny Gantz, one of Netanyahu’s primary political rivals, has also denounced the ICC prosecutor’s decision, stating that “drawing parallels between the leaders of a democratic country determined to defend itself from despicable terror to leaders of a bloodthirsty terror organization is a deep distortion of justice and blatant moral bankruptcy.”

In a statement to Reuters, senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri also condemned the proposed warrants against the Palestinian group’s leaders, stating that such a move “equates the victim with the executioner” and could encourage Israel to continue its “war of extermination” in Gaza.

While Israel does not officially recognize the ICC’s jurisdiction, the State of Palestine has been a member of the organization since 2015. If the court fulfills Khan’s request and issues warrants for the arrest of Israeli and Hamas officials, any of the organization’s 124 member nations will be obligated to arrest them if they set foot on their territory.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas fighters attacked Israel, killing approximately 1,200 and taking 250 more hostage. In response, Israel launched a large-scale military operation in Gaza. According to the Palestinian enclave’s health ministry, over 35,000 have lost their lives and almost 80,000 others have been wounded so far as a result of the IDF’s airstrikes and ground offensive.

The wave of state ballot initiatives seeking to impose unrestricted abortion-on-demand on states from coast to coast has encountered a serious problem: Voters are beginning to see them as a cynical ploy to elect Democrats. The news comes from reading between the lines of a story in Politico titled “National Dem strategy worries state abortion-rights leaders.”

“Democrats’ efforts to ride the coattails of abortion ballot measures put passage at risk,” declares the subheadline.

The abortion lobby apparently fears defeat if voters realize their state’s referendum serves as little more than a Democratic voter-drive scheme. “We haven’t won or beat back a single one of these ballot measures without significant [I]ndependent and Republican support,” Mini Timmaraju, president and CEO of Reproductive Freedom for All (formerly NARAL) told Politico. “We spent a lot of last year talking to candidates directly saying, ‘Don’t put things on the ballot just to enhance voter turnout for Dems.” A leader of the Nebraska abortion-expansion referendum, Taylor Givens-Dunn said, “We want to be clear that this is about people, not politicians.”

Their concerns have spread to the professional political class. An anonymous consultant working with multiple state ballot initiatives told Politico that Democratic candidates “don’t need to talk about the specific ballot initiatives all day long,” because if they do, it will “reduce the chances that they win.”

SUPPORT LIFENEWS! If you want to help fight abortion, please donate to LifeNews.com!

Thus far, Democrats have not only ignored this anonymous individual’s advice; they have openly touted the referenda as their party’s political salvation in November. “[A]bortion has become a key issue that could help drive turnout for Democrats to win up and down the ballot,” said a memo dated May 2 from the Democratic Party’s official campaign arm aimed at winning statewide races, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC). “These measures will cement abortion protections into state constitutions and could boost turnout for competitive races at every level of the ballot.” The DLCC’s president, Heather Williams, apparently provided the memo to Axios along with her own quotation.

Democrats have considered multiplying these initiatives even in self-described “abortion sanctuaries,” such as New York. Although the state has effectively no protections for unborn children, and Governor Kathy Hochul (D) gives millions to abortion facilities, “Democrat lawmakers pushed the effort forward amid hopes that it will bolster turnout,” reported The Hill.

The bad news is that support for abortion-on-demand does, indeed, cut across party lines. That includes a dishearteningly large minority of Bible-believing Christians, according to a study of Ohio’s Issue 1 released by the Center for Christian Virtue (CCV). Based on their numbers, “1 in 3 self-identified weekly church-going Catholics and Evangelicals supported the law, which will rob an estimated 30,000 unborn children of their lives every year,” CCV found. In all, “30 percent of Ohioans who believe life begins at conception voted to pass the radical abortion amendment.”

Even with such odds, the abortion industry apparently frets voters will reject ballot initiatives that are seen as a craven Democratic GOTV effort.

It would be a shame if the word got out.

Fourteen years ago, I published the Explosive Deathbed Confessions of my beloved Teacher.  I was then instructed to check out the calibre of the sheeple. In all that time there's been little for the Satanic Alpha Lodge to worry about. Increasingly (and as advised in my missives) we are coming out of the shadows, stepping before the camera. In due course, the Usher of Desecration followed by Vindex will appear. Ready?

Recently there was a news story about how the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is using Chinese cameras to spy upon and control the serfs. Chinese cameras and facial recognition system computer programs have been used in Australia for years and more are coming. Do the white trash care? The Chinese government intends to turn the Land Down Under into an open-air prison and Aussies are paying for it. The prison-grid planet is proceeding nicely: safety and security!

Satan is the only God who cares! And where's the tyrannical father, numb-nuts son and holy ghost when you believe you need them? For you and yours it's looking grim, but for Us and Our deities, it's great.  'We're here to help you find Jesus. He's hiding behind the sofa.'

Donald appeals to Americans' base, underclass instincts, many of whom are suffering from entrenched poverty, violence, alienation, increasing hopelessness, dilapidated infrastructure and limited possibilities. That such suffering continues to worsen in what Biden laughingly refers to as 'the greatest country on the face of the Earth' is in large part why Trump finds such committed, deluded believers.

But, despite what his supporters fervently hold dear, Trump doesn't care about suffering - even the suffering those who support him. As President, did the miserable lives improve for those who put their faith in him? This time he's motivated by retribution, but again, it's just illusion. As (my mentor) Petor used to laugh, "The cheapest thing in the known universe is a human soul". And I can hear Petor now in cherished memory.

Finally, let me reiterate: Originally and before I joined, the Satanic Alpha Lodge was libertarian and sought freedom; but the plebs didn't want it and so we changed to give them what they still want - slavery.

The Profumo affair was an example of long-term work, coming to fruition now in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. For us, our inspiration is individual, isolated divinity and so ipso facto, freedom is supremely important.

But for the filth, freedom comes with responsibilities and who needs more responsibilities? Xtianity is based on a vicious, nasty, spiteful, vindictive, hateful father with an incompetent, piss-weak son who preaches suffering and death as virtues.

Well, while we advance to greatness, we give the masses what they want. Have no fear! The best is yet to come, and quickly.

The Minnesota legislature last night failed to approve a deceptive measure to put the so-called Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) on the ballot in 2026. The House passed the bill (SF 37) early Sunday, but the Senate did not take it up before the midnight deadline. The proposed ERA, if ratified by voters, would enshrine a policy of unlimited abortion in the Minnesota Constitution, but the language presented to Minnesotans on the ballot would say nothing about the issue.

“Minnesotans all across the state have been telling their legislators: We don’t want abortion-up-to-birth permanently mandated by our Constitution,” said MCCL Co-Executive Director Cathy Blaeser. “Nor do we want you to deceive us about what you’re really trying to do. Polls show that most Minnesotans don’t want abortion added to the ERA, and most don’t want unlimited abortion. This ERA isn’t about equal rights at all. It’s extreme, exclusionary, and dishonest.”

A new KSTP/SurveyUSA poll found that 64 percent of Minnesotans want abortion considered separately from the ERA. Two earlier polls—a Star Tribune/MPR News/KARE 11 poll and a KSTP/SurveyUSA poll—both found that just 30 percent of Minnesotans favor abortion without limits, the current policy that the ERA would enshrine.

“MCCL has campaigned extensively in recent weeks to inform Minnesotans about our state’s abortion-up-to-birth policy and the deceptive ERA,” said Blaeser. “And we aren’t going to stop. We’re going to tell Minnesotans the truth, and Minnesotans are going to continue to make their voices heard.”

SUPPORT LIFENEWS! If you want to help fight abortion, please donate to LifeNews.com!

The House, before passing SF 37 Sunday morning, rejected numerous amendments during a days-long debate, including amendments to protect rights based on age and religion (protections that the ERA excludes) and to add an abortion reference to the ballot language so that it matches what is put into the Constitution. All amendments were voted down by the DFL majority.

“The language that we are giving to the voters does not express to them that ‘pregnancy’ means ‘abortion,'” said Rep. Anne Neu Brindley (R-North Branch) during the House debate. “They have no idea what they’re actually voting on. They have no idea. This language is so dishonest. … You [the DFL majority] are asking voters to change the Constitution of the state of Minnesota, and you are not telling them the truth about what the amendment actually does.”

“This is, I have to imagine, the most consequential vote that I will ever take: The decision whether or not to put into the highest law of our land a repeal of civil rights for human beings,” added Rep. Walter Hudson (R-Albertville). “I think it’s worth contemplating, before we cast this vote, the gravity of … declaring that … any baby, at any stage of gestational development, simply does not matter.”

Word of Antony Blinken’s displeasure was leaked to the media

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has directed his aides to stop the leaks of confidential discussions related to the Israel-Hamas conflict to the media, an unnamed State Department official told Politico.

Reuters got a hold of an internal State Department memo at the end of April, showing that several officials had advised Blinken that Israel’s assurances about US-supplied weapons were not “credible or reliable.” Someone at Foggy Bottom has also leaked details of proposals to broker a ceasefire and free the Israelis held captive by Hamas.

Blinken criticized the department leadership at a meeting earlier this month and said the leaks made diplomacy more difficult, but also “eroded trust within the State Department that documents or details of closed-door conversations wouldn’t find their way to a reporter,” according to Politico’s description.

The top diplomat urged his direct underlings to “help plug the leaks,” in particular those related to the conflict in Gaza, three unnamed officials told the outlet. One of them added that Blinken’s message had been “sternly delivered” throughout the department.

The “constant stream of leaks” from Foggy Bottom is causing “increasing unease” in the Biden administration, according to Politico, and “underscores the intense frustrations” in Washington with failures to free the hostages and deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians.

Reports that lower-level officials believed Israel wasn’t using US-provided weapons in accordance with international law made Blinken “particularly displeased.” To comply with congressional demands for reporting on such matters, the White House said last week that it was “reasonable” to assume Israel was in violation, but stopped short of a formal assessment that would require weapons deliveries to stop.

Earlier this month, Israel shrugged off public warnings from the US not to proceed with an attack on Rafah, a city in southern Gaza that most of the food and other aid for the Palestinian enclave was coming through. Talks between Israel and Hamas broke down completely over the weekend.

On Monday, the International Criminal Court – which neither the US nor Israel recognize – sought arrest warrants for both Israeli and Hamas leaders. Washington has previously threatened the ICC with military intervention should it dare to prosecute Israelis.

Offertory: The Lord thundered from heaven, the Most High gave forth His voice; and the fountains of waters appeared, alleluia.

Postcommunion: Be present to Your people, we beseech you, O Lord, and defend those whom you have nourished with heavenly mysteries from the fury of their enemies.

God wants us to pray for our needs. He wants us to be joyful in His strength. He wants to grant the effect of the prayers of the devoutly faithful, whose faith has been granted by Him through grace. He wants to thunder from heaven to our aid.

But to aid us in what way? To defend us from the fury of our worldly enemies, to be sure. But far greater than this, to aid us in attaining our heavenly reward, by SEEKING TRUTH. That’s the “whatever I have said to you” in the Communion verse. This truth is the One True Faith as laid down by Jesus Christ and disseminated by His apostles. The truth never changes because God never changes. For change to occur, the nature of thing must be different at one time than it is at another time. Since time is a construct created by God, and He exists outside of it, change for Him is impossible. That’s right, the omnipotent God was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be PERFECT.

So if you ever hear anyone, no matter their title, trying to tell you that you need to listen to the “spirit”, to be open to new ideas, to embrace the “surprises”, and to do so ESPECIALLY when they represent a clear break with how things were laid down and passed on for 2000 years, well, that person is in fact the enemy, attempting to inflict his fury upon you. And he is far worse than our worldy foes, because his fury is directed not at your mortal body, but at your eternal soul. Always it will be an appeal to the false doctrines of Times They Are A Changin’ and Things Are Different Nowadays, because today we have people in concrete situations to which it can no longer be said that God’s laws are anything more than lofty ideals.

For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. 2 Tim 4:3-4

Benedictine College is unapologetically Catholic. This shouldn’t be a shock to anyone who has spent at least 30 seconds looking at their website or Instagram. There has never been any attempt to hide or shy away from our identity. Rather, the college is proud to nurture traditional Catholic values.

As a young woman and a Benedictine student, I am proud of my college for its unashamed faith. It is a haven for young people, like me, who have not always felt accepted for what we believe and who often have to defend our views.

Knowing this about my school, it didn’t come as a surprise to me when Benedictine asked Harrison Butker, an outspoken traditional Catholic, to give the commencement speech at this year’s graduation.

What did come as a shock to me was the firestorm that followed.

Butker began his speech by addressing the hardships the graduating class has faced throughout their educational journey. What stuck out to me in his introduction, however, was the intense call to action he gave the audience.

He stated that we as Catholics must have more courage in speaking openly about our beliefs.

“We need to stop pretending that the Church of Nice is a winning proposition,” he said.

For many, including me, this is a terrifying suggestion. It is one thing to go into the upper room and pray behind closed doors, but it is something else entirely to show my faith openly to the world. My faith is what I cherish most and it scares me to think of opening it up to ridicule from others. Butker recognizes that fear, yet still lives a boldly Catholic life.

Later on in his speech, Butker addressed vocations – an appropriate topic for a Catholic college graduation speech because graduation is a time of heavy discernment for students.

SUPPORT LIFENEWS! If you want to help fight abortion, please donate to LifeNews.com!

He touched on the importance of leaning into each person’s individual vocation and then singled out the women in the room. He briefly commented on how many of them will likely go on to have successful careers but then said that the majority of them will likely be wives, mothers, and homemakers.

This is the comment that probably went the most viral. It stirred up anger, debate, and a lot of hatred toward traditional values. If you’ve spent any time on social media in the last year then you’ve likely seen the great debate over homemaking and if it’s oppressive to women. This speech seems to have poured gasoline onto that already burning fire.

What people online fail to realize is that the culture at my college is not the same as that of other colleges. A statement like this is more common and welcome than it would be at other schools. While I recognize that many women desire to have a career, which can also be pleasing to God, there were still a large number of women sitting in that graduating class who dream of becoming stay-at-home moms and, yes, homemakers.

And that desire does not mean they are oppressed. It does not mean that the school has told them that is all they can be. What it does mean is that regardless of what they choose, they are supported.

I don’t believe Butker is attempting to discredit career-driven women. Rather, his point was to speak to the women who often get marginalized in today’s work-obsessed culture. The women who don’t want to be career-focused.

Much of the criticism of the speech also claims that Butker was sexist for singling out the women and that men should also be a part of homemaking. Well, a few minutes later in the speech Butker said just that.

“To the gentlemen here today, part of what plagues our society is this lie that has been told to you that men are not necessary in the home or in our communities.”

    Harrison Butker

What is this statement if not a direct affirmation of the importance of men stepping up in the home? It takes both men and women to create a loving home. It takes courage to commit to someone and selflessly give of yourself. And yes, sometimes it takes sacrificing a dream career in order to pursue something greater than yourself.

As a young woman who desires a career but also desires to be a wife, mother, and homemaker, I appreciate hearing those desires affirmed. Choosing to forego a career-driven life doesn’t make you any less of a woman, just like choosing to have a career doesn’t make you any less of a woman.

It is by leaning into our unique vocations that we can find peace and unity with God.

The UK High Court ruled that Washington’s assurances of a fair trial for the WikiLeaks founder were insufficient, allowing a full appeal

The High Court in London has ruled that WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange has the right to appeal an extradition request by the US. Washington is seeking to put the Australian publisher on trial for espionage for disclosing alleged war crimes committed by the US in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    What Monday’s hearing was about

The UK High Court considered Washington’s assurances that Assange would be given a fair trial if extradited to the US. The court had previously requested two sets of written guarantees from the US stating that the WikiLeaks founder would not be discriminated against due to his Australian citizenship, and would not be held in a maximum security prison or receive the death penalty.

If the court had ruled that these guarantees were adequate, Assange would likely have been extradited to the US in a matter of days.

Read more FILE PHOTO. US promises not to execute Assange – reports

    US assurances

While the US had provided the assurances, it did so with a number of conditions. The American side promised not to immediately place Assange in a maximum security prison, but reserved the right to do so based on his conduct.

US prosecutors also stated that the WikiLeaks founder would be able to rely on the First Amendment right to free speech during the trial, but noted that its applicability would be “exclusively within the purview of the US courts.”

Public support and criticism of US guarantees

Assange’s supporters slammed Washington’s diplomatic assurances, with Amnesty International’s criminal justice expert Juli Hall calling them “inherently unreliable because the US government gives itself an out.”

The publisher’s wife, Stella Assange, had also described the US guarantees as “blatant weasel words.”

Ahead of Monday’s ruling, hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the High Court in London calling for Assange’s immediate release.

    Assange’s defense

During the hearing, Assange’s lawyer Edward Fitzgerald told the judges that the assurances of a fair trial given by US prosecutors could not be relied upon as American courts would not be bound by them.

“We say this is a blatantly inadequate assurance,” Fitzgerald told the court.

    The verdict

In a short ruling, the two senior judges of London’s High Court stated that the assurances provided by the US were not sufficient, and gave Assange’s legal team the right to a full appeal hearing.

While the legal battle continues, Assange himself will remain in London’s top-security Belmarsh Prison, where he has been held for the past five years since his arrest in 2019 when his asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London was revoked.

    Response to the ruling

The legal victory was immediately celebrated by Assange’s supporters, with Amnesty International’s Simon Crowther calling it a “rare piece of positive news for Julian Assange and all defenders of press freedom.”

Stella Assange applauded the court’s verdict, claiming it had made the “right decision.” She criticized the US for the ongoing persecution of her husband, and demanded that Washington “read the situation” and drop the case against him.

Former Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn also celebrated Monday’s verdict, but stressed that there was still a lot to be done to secure Assange’s freedom.

The group working to enshrine abortion into the Arkansas Constitution raised $321,461 last month, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

    The newspaper writes,

Arkansans for Limited Government has raised a total of $348,506 according to a financial disclosure it provided the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Cheryl and Edward Huffman of Blytheville were the group’s biggest donors, giving Arkansans for Limited Government $150,000 in April.

Democratic Rep. Denise Garner, of Fayetteville, and her husband Hershey Garner, a physician and chair of Arkansans for Limited Government, donated $50,000 to the group in April. Steve Williams, a small business owner from Beebe, also donated $50,000 to the committee.

If passed, the amendment would write abortion into the state constitution, allowing thousands of elective abortions in Arkansas every year.

The amendment does not contain any medical licensing or health and safety standards for abortion, and it automatically nullifies all state laws that conflict with the amendment. That jeopardizes even the most basic restrictions on abortion.

The amendment contains sweeping health exceptions that would permit abortion through all nine months of pregnancy in many cases.

The amendment also would pave the way for publicly funded abortion in Arkansas by changing Amendment 68 to the Arkansas Constitution that currently prohibits taxpayer funded abortion in the state.

Arkansans have generally opposed taxpayer-funded abortion, but taxpayer-funded abortion through all nine months of pregnancy could become a reality in Arkansas if the abortion amendment passes.

To date, multiple organizations have come out against the amendment, including:

Democrats are making their extreme pro-abortion agenda crystal clear. They are telling voters that, if they keep control of the Senate, they will kill the filibuster in the Senate so they can legalize abortions up to birth nationwide.

This is a stark reminder to every pro-life voter in America that pro-life Republicans must win Congress and Joe Biden can’t be re-elected.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin, a Wisconsin Democrat in a competitive Senate battle, has made it clear she wants to ditch the filibuster to push unlimited abortions, according to an ABC News report.

And other Democrats are joining her to promote their radical abortion agenda.

“If NASA had the rules of the United States Senate, the rocket ship would never leave the launchpad,” Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly said in an interview this month with NBC News. “So at times, at the appropriate time — I think this is one of them -– I would consider changing those rules to make sure that women can get the health care they need.”

Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey said “he has been on the record for years” that the rules should be changed and still supports that position. Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar has repeatedly called for eliminating the filibuster to protect abortion and voting rights since Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Please follow LifeNews.com on Gab for the latest pro-life news and info, free from social media censorship.

Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who previously served one term in the House and is the leading Democratic Senate candidate in Florida, said in an NBC News interview this month that she is “very much in favor of pausing the filibuster and voting for a woman’s right to choose to codify Roe v. Wade.”

Senate rules require 60 votes to end debate over a bill, effectively making it the minimum number of votes needed to pass legislation, but ending the filibuster would allow radical pro-abortion bills to be approved on a majority vote.

Radically pro-abortion former Speaker Nancy Pelosi has already said Democrats will do this if they win Congress.

In an interview  earleir this year on MSNBC’s “Katy Tur Reports,” Pelosi falsely claimed “People have to view abortion as a democracy issue. This is about freedom to make your own decisions for a woman. It’s a personal decision, it’s an economic decision at the kitchen table of America’s families, if and when they could expand their families or even start their families.”

Tur asked, “Do you think it’s going to be a more powerful issue at the ballot box this time around?”

Pelosi said, “Well, it is because the fact is that no matter what he says, there will be a national abortion ban, and that would be horrible for our country.”

“We have to win it all. We have to win the White House, with our great president of the United States, Joe Biden, who has a vision for America that is in keeping with the vision of our founders, the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform, the aspirations of our children and their families,” she responded.

Tur asked, “If President Biden gets reelected and there’s a Democratic House and a Democratic Senate, what can President Biden do to protect abortion nationwide?”

“We can enshrine into the law Roe v. Wade,” she responded.

Tur said, “That would take two-thirds in the Senate.”

She then laid out the radical abortion agenda: “No it doesn’t. It’s 60 votes is the Senate now but if we win 50-plus-1 in the Senate, 50 plus the vice president, we can overturn the 60-vote rule.”

    Tur said, “The filibuster.”

Pelosi confirmed: “The filibuster and pass it with a 51-vote margin. That’s what we need to do.”

Responding to her comments, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser told LifeNews, “Biden-Pelosi Democrats will stop at nothing to force abortion on demand any time for any reason, in every state in America – with no exceptions even for brutal second and third trimester abortions when babies can feel pain. They will scrap every rule such as the filibuster that stands in their way and weaponize the full force of the federal government to promote their abortion agenda.”

She said Democrats would go even further and overturn every pro-life law in America.

“Democrats like Pelosi are being up front about their goals, and they are nothing if not ambitious. What they won’t tell America is that their deceptively named ‘Women’s Health Protection Act’ is far more sweeping than Roe v. Wade and would overturn parental rights, informed consent, health and safety standards, late-term abortion limits, and more – a truth the voters are only supposed to discover after it’s too late.

Multiple post-Dobbs polls show that at least seven in 10 Americans support significant limits on abortion. SBA Pro-Life America is tracking the pro-abortion extremism of the Biden-Harris administration at sbaprolife.org/biden-harris.

This election cycle, SBA Pro-Life America and its affiliated entities plan to spend $92 million to protect life across America. This includes reaching 10 million voters – four million directly at their doors – across the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to educate them on key issues and win pro-life majorities in the U.S. House and Senate.

    Putin’s Strategic Blunder

    Paul Craig Roberts

The blunder began years before February 2022. Putin failed to realize that the US was preparing the overthrow of the Ukraine government. When the overthrow began, Putin took no action to prevent the overthrow. Instead, Russia permitted Washington to take over the former province of the Russian state.

A hostile Ukraine is an existential threat to Russia. Why did Russia stand aside and permit Washington’s takeover? Why did Russia sit for the next 8 years on its hands, rejecting the votes of the independent Donbas republics to be reunited with Russia from which they were torn by Soviet leaders and stuck in Ukraine? The culprit in these strategic blunders was the Kremlin’s lack of realism. Putin relied on diplomacy despite the fact that Washington relies on threats, bribes, and coercion. The Kremlin simply did not understand that with the Minsk Agreement it was saddling a dead horse that could go nowhere.

When Putin was finally forced to intervene by the prospect that the inhabitants of Russian Donbas were about to be slaughtered like Palestinians in Gaza today, Putin failed to respond decisively. Still playing all by himself a diplomatic game, he insisted that there be no Russian invasion of Ukraine, only a “special military operation” to clear hostile Ukrainian forces from Donbas. Lost in a diplomatic world that no longer exists, Putin failed to realize that regardless of what he said or did, Western propaganda would present the intervention as a reconstruction of the Soviet Empire that would extend to all of Europe.

It was immediately obvious that the limited and slow-paced “special military operation” would provide Washington and its NATO puppets abundant time to become involved in the conflict, thus endlessly widening the conflict until the conflict became an existential issue for Russia. This is what has occurred.

Still the Kremlin thinks unrealistically. Putin is on the verge of succeeding with his purpose of driving Ukrainian forces out of, and away from, the Russian populated areas, and the assumption is that the war will be over and Russia’s success will be acknowledged in a negotiated settlement.

This delusion persists despite Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov’s acknowledgement that Washington intends Russia’s destruction. Both Lavrov and Putin continue to stress that they are willing to negotiate with Washington Washington’s intention to destroy Russia. It would be hilarious if were not so deadly.

Listen to Lavrov’s speech. He understands the threat to Russia but is incapable of matching a Russian response to the threat. https://informationclearinghouse.blog/2024/05/19/the-west-has-decided-to-sort-things-out-on-the-battlefield-russia-is-ready-lavrov/13/

Thinking Russia’s intervention to be limited, Putin was unprepared for war. He has done very little to hamper the Ukrainian government’s ability to conduct war. Rather than shutting down Ukraine, Putin chose a long drawn-out village by village conquest. The West interpreted this as limited Russian military capability, and this provided both encouragement and time for the West to involve itself in the conflict.

The West is so involved now and the Western political leaders are so certain that Russia intends more aggression that they are preparing for war against Russia. Still, Putin and Lavrov speak of negotiation. After a decade of the West’s rejection of negotiation, how can the Kremlin still see negotiation as a solution?

What needed to be done was to knock Kiev out of the war, install a Russian friendly government in place of the American puppet regime, and present the West with a fait accompli before the West had time to get involved. It is Western involvement that presents the danger of the conflict widening into a war between Russia and the West.

Possibly the solution is still viable. It would leave a neutral Ukrainian state west of the Dnieper River with no Black Sea access. It is highly unlikely that such an outcome can be achieved by negotiation. It can only be imposed by force.

By restraining Russia’s use of force, Putin has opened the road to nuclear Armageddon.

Republican Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey on Thursday said he is investigating the office of Democratic Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas after it reportedly “doxxed” Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker in an X (formerly Twitter) post.

The alleged leaking of Butker’s personal information came days after he gave the commencement address at Benedictine College in Kansas over the weekend.

There, Butker encouraged graduates at the small Catholic college to “be authentically and unapologetically Catholic.” He also spoke positively about marriage and motherhood, but criticized the abortion industry and the LGBTQ movement.

Bailey wrote to Lucas in a letter dated Thursday: “It has been reported that the city of Kansas City has retaliated against a well-respected local resident and member of the Kansas City Chiefs after he spoke about his religious views.”

    The attorney general continued:

Your office’s X account likely publicly released residential location information on a private citizen, Harrison Butker, in an attempt to retaliate against him for expressing his sincerely held religious beliefs at a religious college’s commencement ceremony–to an audience that largely shares his views.

“Use of government social media to retaliate against an individual based on their religious beliefs amounts to discriminatory behavior that is not tolerated under our Constitution or Missouri statute,” Bailey cautioned.

In his letter, Bailey specified that “Missouri law specifically prohibits faith-based discrimination against Missouri residents.”

“Yet, your office apparently believes it is appropriate to denigrate a devout Catholic for comments he made about his own faith at a religious college,” Bailey wrote to Lucas. “Missouri’s Human Rights Act prohibits government actors from discriminating against citizens because of their sincerely held religious beliefs.”

“In addition to the city of Kansas City’s attack on Mr. Butker, there is an effort to force his employer to take disciplinary action against him,” the attorney general wrote, referring to a petition that has garnered over 190,000 signatures in four days.

“To any employer or government official considering such a move, I assure you that I am prepared to use the authority provided in statute to defend the principle of free religious expression,” Bailey wrote.

Kansas City’s X account eventually deleted its controversial post. The account wrote on Wednesday night:

“We apologies for our previous tweet. It was shared in error.”

Two female members of the family that owns the Kansas City Chiefs defended star kicker Harrison Butker after far-left activists circulated a petition calling for the team to “dismiss” the outspoken Catholic.

Last Saturday, Butker spoke at Benedictine College, a small Catholic institution in Kansas about an hour’s drive from where the Chiefs play. In the viral commencement speech, he called on graduates to “be authentically and unapologetically Catholic.”

Butker told female graduates: “[T]he majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”

petition calling on Butker’s team to “dismiss” him alleged that his speech was “sexist, homophobic, anti-trans, anti-abortion and racist.” The petition received over 190,000 signatures in four days. The NFL this past week issued a statement distancing itself from Butker.

However, Tavia Hunt, the wife of Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt, pushed back against the critics in a Thursday Instagram post.

“Affirming motherhood and praising your wife, as well as highlighting the sacrifice and dedication it takes to be a mother, is not bigoted,” she wrote. “It is empowering to acknowledge that a woman’s hard work in raising children is not in vain.”

“I’ve always encouraged my daughters to be highly educated and chase their dreams,” Hunt added. “I want them to know that they can do whatever they want (that honors God).”

Click here to sign up for pro-life news alerts from LifeNews.com

“But I also want them to know that I believe finding a spouse who loves and honors you as or before himself and raising a family together is one of the greatest blessings this world has to offer,” she continued:

Studies show that committed, married couples with children are the happiest demographic, and this has been my experience as well.

Countless highly educated women devote their lives to nurturing and guiding their children. Someone disagreeing with you doesn’t make them hateful; it simply means they have a different opinion.

“Let’s celebrate families, motherhood and fatherhood,” Hunt stressed.

She concluded: “Sound bites overlaid with hateful comments are not what we want to model for our children or others. We need more dialogue (and VALUES, [in my opinion]) in this country and less hate.”

Contrary to the claims of some of his critics, Butker did not at any point in his speech say that he is against women entering the workforce or having successful careers. His own mother Elizabeth Butker is a longtime clinical physicist at Emory University School of Medicine.

Tavia and Clark Hunt’s daughter Gracie also defended Butker during an interview with FOX News host Steve Doocy. Her interview aired Thursday morning, hours before her mother took to Instagram to support the Chiefs kicker.

“I really respect Harrison and his Christian faith and what he’s accomplished on and off the field,” Gracie Hunt told Doocy.

The host told her: “[America] would like to know the reaction from the Hunt family regarding [Butker].”

“I can only speak from my own experience, which is I had the most incredible mom who had the ability to stay home and be with us as kids growing up,” the younger Hunt answered. “And I understand that there are many women out there who can’t make that decision but for me in my life, I know it was really formative in my shaping me and my siblings to be who we are.”

Doocy asked her if she understood what Butker was saying in his speech. To this, she replied “for sure.”

Clark Hunt’s father is Lamar Hunt, the founder of the Chiefs. The trophy annually given to the winner of the AFC Championship Game is named in honor of the elder Hunt.

Butker is a three-time Super Bowl champion. He won in Super Bowls LIV, LVII, and LVIII, all with the Chiefs. He is a key contributor to the team’s recent string of success, which sportswriters have dubbed a “dynasty.”

Notably, the kicker’s game-winning field goal gave the Chiefs a three-point win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

Football analysts widely consider Butker to be one of the top three kickers in the NFL. In addition to being known for his record-setting field goal length, Butker is the second-most accurate kicker in NFL history with a career 89% field goal percentage.

Prior to Butker’s speech, many analysts regarded the 28-year-old Chiefs kicker as a potential future candidate for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Ebrahim Raisi, the leader of the Islamic Republic, has died in a helicopter crash; how will he be remembered?

The Iranian authorities have officially confirmed that a helicopter crash on May 19 resulted in the death of President Ebrahim Raisi, as well as eight others.

Among the victims were Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the governor of East Azerbaijan Province, Malik Rahmati, and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s representative in Tabriz, Imam Mohammad Ali Al-Hashem.

As stipulated by Article 131 of the Iranian Constitution, First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will temporarily assume the duties of the president for 50 days, until a new presidential election is organized by a special council.

    How It Happened

The news that Raisi’s helicopter had initially gone off radar before making a crash landing was reported by Iranian news agencies at around 13:00 GMT the previous day. Conflicting reports then surfaced, many of which turned out to be false. Initially, it was reported that the president and all others on board had survived and were en route to Tabriz in a motorcade. This was later contradicted; there was a later false claim that contact had been made with some passengers and that rescue teams were heading to the crash site.

Conducting the operation to reach the site was extremely challenging due to adverse weather conditions and the difficult terrain of Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province. There were reportedly three helicopters in the presidential convoy; the other two, carrying ministers and officials, reached their destinations safely.

Raisi was returning from a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The two leaders had participated in the opening ceremony at the Gyz Galasy dam (‘Maiden Tower’ in Azerbaijani) on the border between their countries. The heads of state visited various sections of the dam and were briefed on the details of construction and its benefits. On Sunday morning, Raisi arrived at Tabriz International Airport and took a helicopter to the Azerbaijani border, approximately 100km away, to take part in the ceremony.

The return route was planned to be the same. However, after a few hours, it became known that the helicopter carrying the president had disappeared from radar.

One of the first countries to offer help was Russia.  President Vladimir Putin issued a directive and Moscow sent two planes, a helicopter, and 50 rescuers to the vicinity of the crash to assist in the search for Raisi’s helicopter. Additionally, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Azerbaijan also expressed their support and offered assistance.

The rescue operations continued throughout the night, but the incoming information remained highly contradictory. Late in the evening, Iran’s deputy foreign minister announced that Imam Mohammad Ali Al-Hashem, who was with Raisi, had allegedly made contact twice, complaining that he was feeling unwell. A representative of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also stated that the helicopter had been located, but this information was later refuted by the head of Iran’s Red Crescent Society. Similar confusion was observed in the Iranian media.

It seemed that the Iranian people wanted to believe in a miracle. Tens of thousands of residents took to the central streets and squares of cities, holding prayer vigils for the president’s well-being. However, the miracle did not occur. Early in the morning on May 20, rescuers discovered the crash site of the helicopter, which had been completely incinerated, leaving nothing but ashes. The head of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of the Islamic Republic stated that DNA testing would be necessary for identifying some of the victims.

    President Raisi: His Legacy

Raisi is a controversial figure in Iran’s modern history. Before becoming president in 2021, he was the head of Iran’s strict judiciary. At age 25, Raisi became deputy prosecutor of Tehran and rapidly climbed the judicial ladder, later becoming Iran’s attorney general.

Just before the 2021 presidential election, he served as chief justice of the Supreme Court.

During his tenure as the head of Iran’s judiciary, Raisi was sanctioned by the US and faced significant distrust within Iran due to his role in the legal system. He won the presidency in an election marked by the lowest voter turnout in Iran’s history, with only 49% participation, and secured nearly 60% of the votes.

Read more Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. Iranian president confirmed dead in helicopter crash

Raisi’s presidency was marked by the ‘Hijab Revolution’ in autumn 2022, when millions protested for the liberalization of women’s dress codes after the notorious death of a 21-year-old girl, allegedly at the hands of law enforcement, for wearing her headscarf incorrectly.

Despite his controversial background, Raisi proved to be a pragmatic and consistent leader. His political strategy focused on strengthening ties with neighboring and regional allies rather than the West, in stark contrast to his predecessor, the more liberal Hassan Rouhani. Under Raisi, Iran cemented its relationship with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), becoming a full member, and joined BRICS. Tehran also began a phased integration with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and expanded its relations with Russia.

Under Raisi, Iran-Russia relations reached new heights both militarily and economically, with bilateral trade surpassing $5 billion, and the introduction of visa-free travel for tourists between the two countries. Raisi’s presidency saw Tehran firmly align its foreign policy priorities with Russia and China.

Despite his conservative stance and opposition to the West, Raisi and his administration made efforts to negotiate with the US through European intermediaries, aiming to revive the nuclear deal. However, these attempts were unsuccessful. The Biden administration ultimately refused to re-enter the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and the EU proved ineffective as a mediator. Consequently, Iran continued to advance its nuclear program, resisting pressure from Washington and Brussels.

Raisi also restored diplomatic relations with a number of predominantly Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Djibouti, Turkey, Qatar, and the Maldives, and strengthened ties with several post-Soviet republics. Under his leadership, Iran managed to retrieve £400 million from the UK for a canceled 1979 tank contract. Furthermore, Iran increased its oil production to 3.4 million barrels per day, exceeding pre-sanction levels. Raisi’s tenure also saw Iran challenge Israel directly, conducting a large-scale operation and launching a missile strike in retaliation for an Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus which took the lives of 11 Iranian diplomats and two IRGC generals.

    What Lies Ahead

Despite Raisi’s death, the stability of Iran’s political system is expected to remain intact. This is not the first time Iran has faced the loss of high-ranking officials. In 1981, during the Iran-Iraq war, both the president and prime minister were killed in a terrorist attack. At that time, the government was far weaker, and the country was less stable. Replacing Raisi might be challenging, but it is certainly possible.

Read more FILE PHOTO. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi Helicopter carrying Iranian president crashes – reports

Iran’s political direction is primarily determined by the Supreme Leader, a role held by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei since 1989. While his official duty is to uphold the spiritual, cultural, and religious traditions of the Islamic Republic, in reality, he is a key political figure who often mediates between the various factions within the country, balancing the interests of the clergy and the IRGC leadership.

The death of the president, while significant, does not equate to the loss of the head of state, and thus Iran’s policies are unlikely to change in the near future. Although the president has influence and status, the final say rests with Khamenei.

Raisi had managed to gain Khamenei’s ear and was even rumored to be considered as a successor to the 85-year-old Ayatollah, though this was complicated by internal political debates and disagreements.

The death of Raisi is indeed a stress test for the system, given his considerable support within Iran. However, it is not expected to impact the overall power structure or the country’s trajectory. The key task will be overcoming the emotional impact of his loss while maintaining continuity in governance.

The UK High Court has ruled that the WikiLeaks founder has the right to a full appeal process

London’s High Court has granted jailed WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange the right to a fresh appeal against a previous ruling that had ordered his extradition to the US.

The founder of the transparency website claims his prosecution in the UK is part of a larger Western effort to punish him for publishing leaked classified materials exposing alleged war crimes by the US and its allies.

If handed over to the US, he would likely be kept in isolation for the rest of his life, his supporters fear.

Assange has been in British custody since April 2019, when Ecuador revoked his political asylum and allowed police to arrest him at its embassy in London. Assange has since been kept in a maximum security prison fighting the extradition request from the US. The American case against the publisher was revealed only after he was arrested in the UK.

Read more FILE PHOTO. US promises not to execute Assange – reports

American lawyers fought a legal battle against Assange in UK courts, securing London’s consent to hand him over in June 2022, when then-Home Secretary Priti Patel authorized the transfer. The WikiLeaks publisher's defense team has since been trying to overturn the outcome through several appeals.

In March, the High Court ruled there was merit in the argument that the 52-year-old’s rights may be infringed upon in the US prison system. Washington, in response, reportedly offered additional assurances to treat Assange fairly.

On Monday, Assange’s defense team argued that pledges given by the administration of President Joe Biden were “blatantly inadequate,” considering the risk of the death penalty and the chances that they would not be able to maintain contact with their client.

In a short ruling, two senior judges said American submissions were not sufficient and granted Assange another chance to fend off Washington’s claims through the British court system.

The US has indicted Assange under the Espionage Act, a law that is notoriously used by the American government to crack down on whistleblowers exposing classified materials. It does not allow defense on the grounds of public good. Assange stands accused of helping whistleblower Chelsea Manning in her 2010 disclosure to WikiLeaks of hundreds of thousands of classified and sensitive documents related to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which the organization later made public.

Israel’s PM and defense minister as well as Hamas leaders, are suspected of committing war crimes, Karim Khan has said

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has said he's seeking arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas leaders, including Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

There are “reasonable grounds to believe” that the wanted persons are responsible for “war crimes and crimes against humanity” in Gaza and in Israel, Karim Khan outlined in a statement on Monday.

Along with Netanyahu, the prosecutor is looking to arrest Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The wanted Hamas officials include the Palestinian armed group’s leader Yahya Sinwar, the commander of its military wing –al-Qassam Brigades – Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri, and the chief of Hamas’ Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh, the prosecutor’s statement reads.

According to Khan, Netanyahu and Gallant are suspected of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza such as intentional attacks on a civilian population, willful killing and causing of suffering, using starvation as a method of warfare, “extermination and/or murder” as well as other “inhumane acts.”

The wanted Hamas leaders allegedly “bear criminal responsibility” for murder, rape and other acts of sexual violence, and for taking hostages, torture and other “inhumane acts,” the prosecutor said.

#ICC Prosecutor @KarimKhanQC announces applications for arrest warrants in relation to Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant in the context of the situation in the State of #Palestine ⤵️https://t.co/WqDZecXFZq pic.twitter.com/bxqLWc5M6u

    — Int'l Criminal Court (@IntlCrimCourt) May 20, 2024

On October 7, Hamas fighters carried out an incursion into Israel, which resulted in  about 1,200 people being killed and 250 taken hostage. The Israeli government responded to the attack by launching a large-scale military operation in Gaza that is still ongoing. According to data from the Palestinian enclave’s health ministry, 35,456 have been killed and 79,476 others wounded as a result of Israel’s airstrikes and ground offensive.

Israel is not a member of the ICC and does not recognize the jurisdiction of the UN court, but the State of Palestine joined the organization in 2015. Once warrants against Netanyahu and Hamas leaders are issued, any of the court’s 124 member-states will be obliged to arrest them if they set foot on their territory.

Read more FILE PHOTO of the House chamber at the US Capitol, Washington, DC. US lawmakers preparing sanctions against ICC over Israel – Axios

Benny Gantz, the centrist member of Israel’s three-person war cabinet, labeled the decision by Khan to seek arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant as “a crime of historic proportions.” Israel is waging “one of the just wars fought in modern history” and drawing parallels between its top officials and Hamas leaders is “a deep distortion of justice and blatant moral bankruptcy,” he claimed in a statement.

The country’s far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich said that “we have not seen such a show of hypocrisy and hatred of Jews like that displayed by the court in the Hague since Nazi propaganda.” Another rightist cabinet member, national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, has urged the Israeli PM and defense minister to “ignore the anti-Semitic prosecutor and order a stepped-up assault against Hamas until they are completely destroyed.”

Back in April, when reports of a possible arrest warrant against Netanyahu emerged, the PM blamed the ICC for seeking to “paralyze Israel’s very ability to defend itself,” while fanning the “fires of anti-Semitism.”

Axios reported earlier this month that a group of Republican lawmakers in the US House of Representatives had been devising sanctions against the ICC in a bid to deter it from prosecuting the Israeli leaders. The US, Israel’s major ally, is not a state party to the Rome Statute, which founded the ICC in 2002.

There the Holy Father goes again…

I have often wondered if Pope Francis has been or is under psychoanalysis or missed his vocation in life by not becoming a pop-psychologist or psychiatrist.

Herein lies his Achilles heal that has caused so much division and/or polarization in the Church, using psychology against people he criticizes rather than sound theological, doctrinal and dogmatic teachings.

We already know that he has diagnosed in the psychological way those who prefer the TLM to the Modern Mass or those who love both well celebrated.

In his recent 60 Minutes interview, he described clergy and laity who love dogma and then boxed themselves in and he called that suicidal. That is a psychological diagnosis rather than a theological one.

Then he said that leaving migrants where they are coming from is “madness” in the mental sense of the word.

He also couches his statements in political terms and the politics of countries where he is not an expert, especially when it comes to illegal immigration. But this pope disdains canon and civil law and mocks as “doctors of the law” those who say a sane Church and a sane society have laws that need to be upheld, with dispensations here and there.

All of this, though, contributes to the ambiguity of this pope, the confusion he creates and the areas he dabbles in which are not a part of being a “pontiff” which means bridge builder.

A British court has ruled that Washington’s assurances that the WikiLeaks founder would receive a fair trial are insufficient

The UK High Court ruled on Monday that imprisoned WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange can appeal a US extradition request. Washington has demanded that the editor be handed over to stand trial on espionage charges for his website’s coverage of America’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In a long-running legal battle, Assange’s lawyers have repeatedly attempted to appeal the extradition request, arguing that the 52-year-old would not be given a fair trial in the US and could potentially be sentenced to death.

In response, Washington has issued diplomatic assurances that Assange would not be held in a maximum security prison or be put into solitary confinement for extensive periods of time, would not face the death penalty, and would be guaranteed a First Amendment right to free speech.

However, British judges ruled on Monday that these assurances were insufficient and allowed Assange’s legal team to proceed with their appeal against the extradition request.

First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will serve as acting head of state for 50 days, until an election is held

The Iranian leadership has pledged that the work of state authorities will continue without disruption, following the deaths of President Ebrahim Raisi and several other senior figures in a helicopter crash.

The aircraft carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and several others, went down on Sunday in a mountainous region of northwest Iran. After more than ten hours of searching – hampered by fog and rain – the president was confirmed dead.

In a message posted by Mehr News agency on Telegram, the Iranian Cabinet of Ministers described Raisi as “the hardworking and tireless President of the Iranian people, who did nothing but serve the great people of Iran towards the development and progress of the country, kept his promise, and sacrificed his life for the sake of the nation.”

John Barnett’s body was found days before he was due to testify in a lawsuit against the aircraft manufacturer

Boeing whistleblower John Barnett, who raised concerns about the aerospace giant’s production safety standards, died by suicide, US media reported on Friday, citing documents released by the Charleston Police Department.

Barnett was found dead in his car in the parking lot of a hotel in Charleston, South Carolina, on March 9, after he failed to show up for a second day of depositions in a lawsuit against the aircraft manufacturer.

An initial probe concluded that it was an “apparent” suicide, but police continued the investigation after requests from the whistleblower’s family and lawyers, who suspected foul play. The two-month probe, however, confirmed the initial findings, with police stating that Barnett died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

He had bought the handgun in 2000, and his fingerprints were found on a notebook with “what amounts to a suicide note.” Barnett reportedly wrote: “I can’t do this any longer” and “I pray Boeing pays.”

Neither Barnett’s legal team nor his family have so far responded to media requests for comment on the final probe results. Barnett’s family earlier told CBS News they would try to continue his case against Boeing, which is due to go to trial in September.

Barnett had a 30-year career at the aviation giant, and for his last seven years there worked as a quality manager. He left the company in 2017, citing job-related stress.

In 2019, the former employee told the BBC that he had witnessed Boeing employees being pressured into deliberately fitting sub-standard parts into aircraft to cope with increased demand.

According to Barnett, he repeatedly complained to company management about his findings, but no action was taken. In 2021, Barnett filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, alleging a host of safety concerns including stray titanium shavings in electrical wiring, defective oxygen tanks, and rushed final production and safety testing.

Boeing has denied the whistleblower’s allegations, and Barnett claimed the company harassed and spied on him following his revelations.

Boeing is yet to comment on the news. In March, the company said it was “saddened” by Barnett’s passing.

Several incidents also took place this year, starting with a door panel blowing off mid-air on a Boeing 737 MAX 9 operated by Alaska Airlines in January. All 737 Max 9 planes are currently grounded in the US, pending safety checks.

Ebrahim Raisi’s aircraft hit the ground in a mountainous area during bad weather

The Iranian government has confirmed that President Ebrahim Raisi and several other high-ranking officials were killed when their helicopter crashed in the northwest of the country on Sunday.

    What happened

Reports began circulating on Sunday afternoon that Raisi’s US-made Bell 212 helicopter had made a “crash landing” in dense fog in a mountainous area near the city of Jolfa in the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan. The president was returning to Tehran from the border region after inaugurating a dam on the Aras River with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Two other helicopters in Raisi’s convoy successfully made it to their destination.

    The rescue effort

Low visibility, rain, and the impassibility of the area seriously complicated the search operation. Some 40 rescue teams were deployed to look for the helicopter. The wreckage was discovered only on Monday morning with the help of Turkish surveillance drones. The Iranian Red Crescent Society said the aircraft was severely damaged and charred, and that there were no signs of survivors.

Shortly after that, state-run Iranian media outlets reported that Raisi, 63, and the other passengers had been killed. The president’s death was later confirmed by the government in Tehran. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has declared five days of mourning in the country for the victims of the crash.

Who was on board the helicopter

Besides Raisi, the crashed helicopter was also carrying Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, East Azerbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, East Azerbaijan Imam Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, and the head of presidential guard, Mehdi Mousavi.

    What next for Iran

The Iranian government has said it will keep operating “without the slightest disruption” following the death of President Raisi. “The path of service will continue with the tireless spirit of Ayatollah Raisi,” it said in a statement. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has announced the appointment of First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as acting president. Mokhber will be in the post for 50 days until an election is held.

    How the world reacted

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his “deepest condolences” to Iran following Raisi’s death. He described the late Iranian president as “an outstanding politician” and “true friend” of Russia, who did a lot to strengthen ties between Moscow and Tehran to the level of strategic partnership.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his Syrian counterpart, Bashar Assad, and the leaders of Venezuela, Jordan, and Egypt were among the first to convey their condolences to Tehran. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said he and his government were “deeply shocked” by what had happened to Raisi and others on board the helicopter.

Iran’s arch-rival Israel has reportedly denied any involvement in Raisi’s helicopter crash. “It wasn’t us,” an unnamed Israeli official told Reuters.

Finland may open a land crossing with its neighbor once a new migration law is adopted, its prime minister has said

Finland could partially reopen its border with Russia if Helsinki adopts a law that tightens measures for migrants, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo told reporters on Sunday.

The draft law proposed by the ruling coalition would allow border agents to turn back migrants trying to enter from Russia without processing their asylum applications.

According to Orpo, Finland’s eastern border has remained “calm” primarily because of his government’s decision to close border crossings with Russia last year.

“When the law is approved, we will try to carefully open the border,” Orpo said in an interview with Yle radio, adding that the measure would be part of the government’s “arsenal” to manage the frontier.

Finland, which joined NATO last year, closed its eastern land border in late November and banned shipping from several ports after more than 1,300 asylum seekers – primarily from Africa and the Middle East – crossed over from Russian territory during a four-month period.

The flow of migrants had previously averaged just a few hundred per year, and the Finnish government blamed Moscow for the influx. Russia has dismissed Helsinki’s claims about “weaponizing” migration.

Fewer than 40 migrants have crossed the border from Russia through the wilderness this year since Finland shut its land crossings, Orpo said, citing Border Guard data.

However, Finnish authorities say the legislation is needed because migrants could start arriving again as warmer weather makes travel easier. There are “thousands” of people in Russia waiting for an opportunity to reach the border, Orpo claimed, citing intelligence reports.

“We could try to start with one border point. And if cooperation is established on both sides of the border, this will make it possible to open other [border crossing points],” the prime minister said.

The bill will be submitted this week to parliament, where it will need five-sixths of the votes to pass. However, legislation that would allow border authorities to turn back asylum seekers who cross from Russia, with or without using force, has already sparked criticism among human rights activists.

Finnish authorities have acknowledged that deporting migrants back to Russia without processing their asylum applications would be in breach of the country’s international human rights commitments, but say the measure will be temporary and limited.

Don’t laugh. Over the past sixty years, such questions were taken quite seriously. In the 1970s, Christ was depicted as a clown in a runaway-hit Broadway musical, Godspell, and as a hippy guru in Jesus Christ Superstar. These strange renderings became de rigueur in not a few Catholic parishes. All these enormities were not to be outdone by the Dominican (now Anglican) Matthew Fox with his…
