The bloc will have to focus on its own defense, the head of the EC has said

The European Union must be prepared to take responsibility for its own defense, as the United States is gradually stepping back from its security commitments, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said.

Her remarks signaled that the bloc should strengthen its military capabilities amid growing tensions with US President Donald Trump.

“The threat posed by Russia will not go away, and we know that the American focus will increasingly shift towards other regions. So, there is no doubt, peace in Europe requires that we take much greater responsibility for our own defense,” von der Leyen said in a speech at the European People’s Party congress in Valencia, Spain, on Tuesday.

In March, von der Leyen unveiled a plan to raise €800 billion ($910 billion) to “rearm” the EU, as several member states look for ways to reduce reliance on US-led security arrangements.

Friedrich Merz, the German chancellor-designate, said in February that Berlin must “gradually achieve independence from the US.”

French President Emmanuel Macron, who has long argued that the EU can no longer outsource its defense to Washington, has expressed openness to extending France’s nuclear umbrella to cover Germany and other EU members.

Trump has called on NATO members in Europe to contribute “a fair share” to collective defense. He has also refused to offer security guarantees to Ukraine or commit US troops to a potential peacekeeping mission.

Moscow has warned that the EU’s military buildup will only escalate tensions. In an interview with TASS published on Tuesday, Nikolay Patrushev, a security adviser to President Vladimir Putin, accused Western countries of “deploying their military machine against Russia and becoming delirious with nuclear apocalypse scenarios.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov argued in March that the EU is willing to “sacrifice” its own economy “only to achieve the ideological goal of ‘defeating’ Russia.”

Not long ago, Marxists and feminists called conservativism “patriarchy” as a slander. Now many conservatives embrace the label.

The author of Rules for Retrogrades proposes returning to “familial patriarchy” to save civilization. His wife, in her book Ask Your Husband, defends the thesis that “the husband is the boss of his wife.” “God bless the patriarchy” (“i.e., Christianity”), she says, “the foundation of Western culture for two thousand years.”

How neo-patriarchalists understand “patriarchy” is more complex than a few quotations can capture. But that they describe their project in such terms is already a serious mistake. Reintroducing patriarchy will not revitalize Western civilization or Christianity, but undermine them.

Exalting Masculinity—And Letting Men Off Easy

“Patriarchy” (meaning “rule by fathers”) is a model of family that emphasizes the father as the family’s first principle—that from which the family arises and that which holds it together. Therefore, as Christopher Dawson points out, it “accentuate[s] the masculine element” throughout family life and society. Patriarchal cultures are often disciplined and warlike, such as that of the ancient Greeks portrayed in the Iliad, the ancient Romans and their institution of the paterfamilias, or the ancient Israelites, born of the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In times like ours when moral softness abounds, the discipline of patriarchal culture might appeal to many.

But patriarchy also tends to let men off easy. It praises the chaste woman who gives her body only to her husband, but it often permits or encourages the husband to take several wives and concubines. Patriarchies at times forgive men their infidelities: in the Odyssey, Odysseus gets almost no censure for fornicating for years with other women, even as his wife Penelope is praised for remaining faithful in his long absence. Patriarchy teaches children to obey their father reverently, but its piety can justify a father’s brutality: Roman law let the paterfamilias execute anyone in his household, even his wife and children.

By their strong deference to the will of the man and his sexual preferences, patriarchal societies tend to enable men—especially wealthy and strong “alpha” males—to rule a sprawling brood of wives, concubines, children, and grandchildren. If he is the oldest of several sons, his power grows still greater, especially if he marries his children to those of his brothers (a common occurrence in patriarchies).

Hence the natural political form of patriarchy is kingship, in which the king claims to be—with good reason, if his harem is large enough—the father of his people. Below him are the fathers of clans; subordinated to the clan are its constituent nuclear families (a husband with one of his wives and their common children). What gives meaning to the individual’s life is his place within this highly collective society, ruled by men who control the lives of their subordinates.

    Equality in the Spirit

Many neo-patriarchalists shy away from these aspects of patriarchy. The authors mentioned above affirm monogamy and American democracy, not polygamy and monarchy. For instance, the author of Ask Your Husband insists that a woman should obey her husband “not based on blindness but on reason and truth”; she suggests the husband’s judgment is not unquestionable, because all human beings have the same fundamental capacity to know truth. But respect for the universal dignity of the person and his conscience, whether in marriage or political life, cannot last in a patriarchal society, because it runs against patriarchy’s nature. Such respect does, however, flourish in a genuinely Christian culture, which the West has been for much of history. And such a culture, contrary to what neo-patriarchalists say, is not patriarchal.

Christianity sees itself to be in continuity with Judaism, and it accepts that the history of the Jewish people was divinely guided. That history includes the lives of the patriarchs from whom the people of Israel sprang. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Christians acknowledge, had remarkable virtues, above all fidelity to the one true God. But they also practiced vices typical of patriarchy, including polygamy—which the patriarchs undertook not at God’s command, but on their own initiative, and with dubious results. Not surprisingly, Jewish authorities eventually banned polygamy.

Christianity acknowledged only strict monogamy from its start. Jesus of Nazareth, Christianity’s founder, pointed out that, as the Bible taught, God intended marriage to be a two-in-one-flesh union from the beginning; the logic of that calling entailed monogamy and the indissolubility of marriage. It also entailed a fundamental equality between the spouses. Both are bound to keep the marriage intact: “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” Jesus’s follower Paul explained that obligation’s logical extension to intimacy within marriage:

The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not rule over her own body, but the husband does; likewise the husband does not rule over his own body, but the wife does.

Spouses are to “be subject to one another.” They give themselves in different ways according to their sex, but the final value of each person’s gift is measured by a single standard—the purity of the person’s love for God and the other spouse.

God permitted divorce and remarriage after sin entered the world because of men’s “hardness of heart” (just as he tolerated the polygamy of the patriarchs) until the day when, by divine intervention, mankind could once again fulfill its original vocation. As any committed married person knows, marriage’s joys are accompanied by trials that require God’s help. After man was separated from God by sin, he could not abide by the natural law of marriage, since his individual nature was turned away from its internal law. Inevitably, the transcendent law of justice was overridden by the law of physical power: might made right. And since men are, on average, physically more powerful than women, over time the sinful, fallen world became dominated by men, as God warned the first woman, Eve, after she and her husband Adam had sinned.

But for those who received salvation from sin through Jesus, physical power once again became subordinated to justice and charity. The spirit once again ruled over the flesh and its desires, and the original law of marriage was restored. The focus of kinship became the nuclear family, not the clan, and polygamy was ruled out entirely. Christianity made it difficult for clans to develop, forbidding intermarriage between close relatives.

No longer could the haze of sin let men rationalize dominating women because of their greater physical strength. Now it was clear that the spirit was the highest principle in humanity, and that women were just as capable of spiritual excellence as men—as witnessed by the holiness of Mary, the Mother of God; of Catherine of Siena, who brought powerful men to heel; or of Teresa of Avila, who founded a spiritual movement that transformed much of Christianity. The measure of a person’s merit became not his power but his love of God and neighbor; the equal standing of men and women as persons was indisputable.

In part to seal these social transformations, Christianity made a new institution to complement marriage: celibacy, the lifelong renunciation of marriage to give one’s heart, mind, and body wholly to God. The very existence of celibate men and women showed visibly that the spirit was superior to the flesh—that even the desire for conjugal love could be satisfied by spiritual love for God, if God gave one such a calling. The same God who alone could make marriage possible was the one thing necessary for the human heart.

Reintroducing patriarchy will not revitalize Western civilization or Christianity, but undermine them.

Rolling Back the Progress of Grace

When Christianity entered the world, it did not affirm patriarchy; rather, it tried to help us grow out of it. Christianity taught humanity to love God above all things and to judge reality from his eternal, spiritual perspective. Man’s body is God’s creation, but it is less like God than man’s soul is. Christians who affirm patriarchy today, like all patriarchalists, judge men and women by their bodies more than their spirits. They thus risk rolling back the progress that grace has made in transforming the West: they point us not to a more Christian future but back to ancient paganism.

One can understand why conservatives might be tempted this way, after the twentieth century’s experience with radical feminism. Radical feminists absurdly denied that women’s bodies gave them what Edith Stein called a “natural vocation” “to be wife and mother.” They did so in part because they lacked the strong sense of humanity’s spiritual life—which Christian feminists like Stein had—that relativized the physical without denying it. Often being Marxists, or materialists of other kinds, radical feminists believed the only way women could be equal with men was by gaining material power. Christian feminists could recognize that women who embraced motherly roles in the family—which appeared materially inferior—could be more excellent human beings than men.

On the other hand, one can understand why radical feminists might have been drawn to their opinions. For one thing, the growth of prosperity under the market economy has made us less tolerant of any material differences. But more importantly, as Dawson points out, although the market economy is not patriarchal by nature, it was linked with patriarchy, as Dawson says, “by a curious freak of historical development”: the economic changes that created modern prosperity arose from early modern English culture, which happened to be quite patriarchal.

In the seventeenth century, the English royalist Robert Filmer, an Anglican Christian, defended absolute monarchy and patriarchal society in his Patriarcha (which provoked John Locke’s famous reply). His Puritan compatriots rarely spoke of patriarchy: according to David Hackett Fischer, they “sometimes actually condemned” it. Nevertheless, English Puritans “rejected the ideal of celibacy,” just as Anglicans did. Both groups also severely reduced or eliminated devotion to Mary, the Mother of God. Thus, these dominant elements of English society tended toward patriarchy, whether in principle or in fact: they regressed toward more material and masculine views of family and religion, and therefore away from original Christian spirituality. And as English culture was transplanted to America, then spread through the industrial revolution, its materialistic notions of family spread as well, calling forth the opposition of feminists.

    Sounder Spirituality, Not Sexual Materialism

Hence our current confused and paradoxical impasse. Both radical feminists and neo-patriarchalists emphasize the physical in humanity to the detriment of the spiritual; but the former camp hates physical differences between the sexes, while the latter embraces them excessively. Both radical feminists and neo-patriarchalists rightly identify a patriarchal element in Western history; but they are both wrong for blaming—or crediting—Christianity for patriarchy’s rise. Christianity caused modern patriarchy more by declining than by growing. Attacking Christianity will only make patriarchy worse, and defending patriarchy will undermine the spread of Christian culture; either way, the world may end up with bizarre new forms of polygamy.

Instead we should promote an authentic humanism, like that of Edith Stein, by which we can recognize the complementary physical differences between men and women in light of their common spiritual vocation. This approach offers a sounder anthropology, and it directs our attention toward union with God. He alone can give knowledge of the mystery of the human person he created, and so help us navigate between the twin errors of sexism and false egalitarianism.

Christians especially should not adopt patriarchal ideas that have little to do with the Gospel; they should attend to their own conversion so they can see human sexuality from God’s perspective. They might also think of how to foster celibate vocations in their church, starting with their own children, as a way to counter our age’s sexual materialism. If Christians are young enough, they should ask God whether he is calling them to give themselves entirely, body and spirit, to him: to bear living witness to the power of the One who created human beings “male and female” in His image, destining them for a new creation in which they will be as though “neither male nor female,” “like angels.”

(LifeSiteNews) — Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò is doubling down on his belief that the upcoming conclave is invalid due to irregularities with its members.

“At most, the College will be able to designate its own representative, someone who will renew and continue the usurpation of the recently deceased predecessor, and see the ongoing fraud further ratified by a complicit or cowardly episcopate,” His Excellency told Italian journalist Francesco Borgonovo this week.

Following Francis’ death, Archbishop Viganò has spoken out on a number of topics, not only about Francis’ legacy, which he has described as a “usurpation” of the Throne of St. Peter, but also about the upcoming meeting of the cardinals, which is set to kick off on May 7.

In an April 23 letter sent to an Italian television program, His Excellency commented that due to “Bergoglio’s acceptance of the Papacy [being] flawed,” the clergy he has named cardinals are “false.”

“Of the 136 Cardinal electors, 108 were ‘created’ by [Bergoglio]; which means that whatever Pope is elected in the upcoming Conclave – even if he were a new Saint Pius X – his authority will be compromised by having been elected by false cardinals, created by a false Pope,” His Excellency said.

Archbishop Viganò re-iterated that position in his interview with Borgonovo.

“A College of Cardinals composed of 108 ‘cardinals’ created by a Jesuit who usurped the Papacy for twelve years cannot validly elect a legitimate pope,” he stated.

The College of Cardinals will gather for a conclave to choose our next pope on May 7, 2025.

This is a crucial time for Catholics to come together and pray for the cardinals who will make this important decision.

Below are eight ways Catholics can pray for the upcoming conclave:

    1) Pray the Novena to Saint Michael the Archangel

The novena to Saint Michael the Archangel begins on April 29 and ends on May 7, just before the May 8 feast of Saint Michael’s apparitions at Gargando.

Providentially, this novena ends on the day the conclave begins. Let us entrust the conclave to Saint Michael the Archangel, that the cardinals will listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and be guarded against any demonic influence or attacks.

    2) Adopt Cardinals to Pray for

In this Instagram post, EWTN published all 135 cardinals participating in the conclave. The challenge? Adopt three cardinals to pray for.

    Here’s the post below:

    3) Pray Father Chad Ripperger’s Prayer for the Conclave

Exorcist Father Chad Ripperger released a prayer entrusting the conclave to the Blessed Mother.

    Here is the prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, by entrusting to St. Peter and his successors the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, thou didst establish the office of the papacy. Grant to thy Church, we beseech thee, a pope who, in his dedication to the Sacred Tradition of the Church, will seek to govern the Church according to the Deposit of Faith and for the salvation of souls.Immaculate Mary, Mother of the Church and Queen of Confessors, we consecrate to thee the conclave and the election of the Holy Father. Blessed Mother, look not upon our sinfulness or upon the infidelity of many Catholics who do not accept the teaching of thy Son, but upon the Church which is the spotless Bride of thy son, so that we do not get the leader we deserve, but a Holy Father who will guide the Church for the glory and honor of thy Son. Amen.

    4) Pray Cardinal Raymond Burke’s Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe for the Conclave

Cardinal Burke published a novena prayer entrusting the conclave to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Even though the novena began on April 26, it’s never too late to join in.

    Here’s the prayer below:

I kneel before you, O Virgin Mother of God, Our Lady of Guadalupe, the compassionate mother of all who love you, cry to you, seek you, and trust in you. I plead for the Church at a time of great trial and danger for her. As you came to the rescue of the Church at Tepeyac in 1531, please intercede for the Sacred College of Cardinals gathered in Rome to elect the Successor of Saint Peter, Vicar of Christ, Shepherd of the Universal Church. At this tumultuous time for the Church and for the world, plead with your Divine Son that the Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church, His Mystical Body, will humbly obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Through your intercession, may they choose the most worthy man to be Christ’s Vicar on earth. With you, I place all my trust in Him Who alone is our help and salvation. Amen.Heart of Jesus, salvation of those who trust in Thee, have mercy upon us!Our Lady of Guadalupe, Virgin Mother of God and Mother of Divine Grace, pray for us!

    5) Pray the Rosary

Offer your intentions on the Rosary for the conclave and their decision regarding the future pope.

Our Lady of Fatima emphasized the importance of her intercession for the Holy Father, especially on the Holy Rosary. Fatima visionary Jacina Marto offered many prayers and sacrifices for the Pope, encouraging others to do the same.

She said, “Poor Holy Father, I feel a lot of pity for him. We must pray a lot for him.”

Our Lady also promises, "By the recitation of the Rosary, you shall obtain all that you ask of me."

,Click here to learn how to pray the Rosary.

    6) Go to Eucharistic Adoration & Make a Holy Hour

Eucharistic adoration is a powerful way to present your petitions to God. Many saints and holy people of God stressed the importance of making a holy hour, preferably daily.

Saint John Paul II, who made a daily Eucharistic Holy Hour said,

“The Eucharist is the heart of the Church. Where Eucharistic life flourishes, there the life of the church will blossom.”

Archbishop Fulton Sheen also stressed the importance of a daily Eucharistic Holy Hour “because we live in a demonic age.” He called it “the secret” of his power behind his ministry.

“When I stand up to talk, people listen to me; they will follow what I have to say. Is it any power of mine? Of course not... But the secret of my power is that I have never in fifty-five years missed spending an hour in the presence of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. That’s where the power comes from. That’s where sermons are born. That’s where every good thought is conceived.”

    7) Offer Your Communion at Mass

Offering your communion for a specific intention is a very powerful way to present our requests to God, specifically for the future pope. Why? Because the Eucharist is the “source and summit of Christian life.” The priest offers his intention at the Mass, but you can too.

When you receive the Holy Eucharist, you are the closest to Jesus you can be while on Earth. What better way to present your intentions to Him?

    8) Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet

The Divine Mercy Chaplet is another powerful way to pray for the cardinals during this important time. Jesus even asks that we pray for the “souls of priests and religious” on the second day of the Divine Mercy novena.

He also tells us that he will grant all that is asked of him if it is in accordance with His will.

“I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion.”

Would you add anything to the list?

CIA "Can Neither Confirm Nor Deny" Whether Secret Virginia Site Is Theirs

A low-profile government complex in northern Virginia - long rumored to be a CIA spook site - briefly appeared on a federal real estate for-sale list last month, only to disappear from the market within hours, in a mysterious vanishing act worthy of a spy novel.

The Parr-Franconia warehouse complex from a General Services Administration report in 2015.Source: General Services Administration

The nondescript Parr-Franconia warehouse complex, tucked just off I-95 a few miles from the Pentagon, popped up on a Trump administration list of “non-core” federal properties slated for potential sale, Bloomberg reports, noting that the list was yanked down less than 24 hours later - including more than 400 other buildings and offices, some housing cabinet-level agencies.

But it was the Springfield cluster that raised eyebrows — 14 buildings, some going by names like “Franconia Building B” and “Butler Building 12,” which don’t appear on any other public database of government real estate.

    The CIA's official response? A non-denial denial.

The CIA can neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence” of records related to the proposed sale, the agency said Monday in a response to a Freedom of Information Act request filed by Bloomberg News - deploying its classic "Glomar" language, coined during a Cold War submarine recovery op in 1974.

    That’s spy-speak for: Don’t ask us - we’re not telling.

The site, which dates to 1952, has been the subject of decades of local speculation. Foreign Policy once identified it as a heavily guarded compound used to store “classified files, equipment, and supplies.” Marc Ambinder of The Week called it “perhaps the worst-kept secret in Springfield,” where neighbors talk openly about the strange security measures and rotating surveillance.

"It’s been identified in numerous public forums. The bad guys know it exists; the CIA and the Air Force often assign counter-surveillance teams to the area," wrote Armbinder.

Even Fairfax County assigns a hefty valuation: the 1.2 million-square-foot property is tax-exempt but carries an appraisal of over $115 million.

The Trump administration has made waves with its effort to trim the government’s bloated real estate portfolio, but this listing — along with the headquarters of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which Secretary Scott Turner famously slammed as “the ugliest building in DC” — may have gone a step too far.

In the end, the administration backtracked on all 443 proposed sales, citing a need for further review. But the sudden appearance of a shadowy Springfield site, potentially connected to U.S. intelligence, suggests someone in the bureaucracy might’ve hit "publish" without reading the fine print — or the classification stamps.

Neither the CIA nor the General Services Administration will say more — not even to confirm the property exists. Which, in the world of cloak-and-dagger real estate, probably says everything.

Another East Texas city has passed an ordinance outlawing abortion. The City of Avinger (pop. 371) passed their ordinance on Monday, becoming the 74th city in the nation to pass such a measure. The measure, which was presented by Right to Life Across Texas, was placed on the city council agenda by Mayor Jeff Patterson and passed in a 3-1 vote.

Alderwoman Kelli Spencer, Alderman Adam Young, and Alderman Marvin Parvino voted for and Alderwoman Lois Montgomery voted against. Alderwoman Margaret Ford did not attend the meeting.

The vote came after a new report was released which found that about 11% of women experience “sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or another adverse event within 45 days following a mifepristone abortion.”

LifeNews is on GETTR. Please follow us for the latest pro-life news

In a written statement to the Avinger City Council, Avinger resident Kori Peterson wrote, “Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion forces have continued the dishonest narrative that abortion isn’t a big deal, is liberating to women, and is a right. This is grossly false. Abortion is deadly to a child, harms and causes trauma for women, and no one has a right to end human life.”

The Avinger Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance states, in the second declaration, “abortion at all times and at all stages of pregnancy is an unlawful act, unless the abortion is performed to save the life of the pregnant woman in a medical emergency.” The term “Medical emergency” is defined in the ordinance to mean “a life-threatening physical condition aggravated by, caused by, or arising from a pregnancy that, as certified by a physician, places the woman in danger of death or a serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function unless an abortion is performed.”

The ordinance is clear that it does not prohibit “abortions performed or induced in response to a medical emergency, or any conduct that aids or abets or attempts to aid or abet such abortions” and is also clear that it does not prohibit “conduct taken by a licensed medical professional that is necessary to perform, induce, or facilitate an abortion in response to a medical emergency, or to ensure that the licensed medical professional is prepared to perform, induce, or facilitate an abortion in response to a medical emergency, so long as that conduct is not in any way intended to facilitate an elective abortion.”

The ordinance extends the private right of action found in the Texas Heartbeat Act from the point of a detectable heartbeat to the point of conception – allowing a lawsuit to be filed against anyone in violation of the ordinance. The ordinance is clear that no action may be brought against the mother of the unborn child upon whom the abortion was performed or induced or attempted to be performed or induced in violation of the ordinance. The ordinance also prohibits the mailing of abortion-inducing drugs into Avinger, prohibits abortion trafficking through Avinger, and prohibits waste management companies from trafficking aborted babies through Avinger or disposing of dead babies anywhere within Avinger.

Upon the passage of the measure, Avinger resident and former State Representative David Simpson said, “Avinger is blessed to join cities and counties across Texas who are going as far as they can to address the tragedy of abortion, specifically abortion trafficking and the mailing of abortion-inducing drugs.” The ordinance is part of a cultural shift which views abortion trafficking as no different as sex trafficking or drug trafficking.

Texas Right to Life estimates that there are 30,000 Texas babies aborted each year due to the mailing of abortion-inducing drugs into the state and the abortion trafficking of pregnant mothers and their unborn children outside the state of Texas. The Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinances, which have now been passed in 57 cities and 7 counties across the state, help to reduce these numbers to the best of their ability.

Part of what several cities and counties have accomplished at the local level is being attempted at the state level through bills like the Woman and Child Protection Act (TX HB 5510 / TX SB 2880) and the Stop Tax-Funded Abortion Travel Act (TX SB 33 / TX HB 1806). Those who wish to encourage the Texas legislature to prioritize the passage of such bills can do so by sending the legislature a message through contacting Texas Right to Life.

Citizens who are interested in seeing their city or county pass an ordinance going as far as their city or county can to prohibit abortion are encouraged to sign the online petition on the Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn website.

The New York State Assembly passed a controversial bill Tuesday that would legalize assisted suicide, a move critics warn could endanger vulnerable populations.

The Medical Aid in Dying Act, approved by a vote of 81-67, now heads to the Senate, where its fate remains uncertain.

The legislation, sponsored by Assemblymember Amy Paulin, D-Scarsdale, passed despite bipartisan opposition, by a vote of 81-67.

Jessica Rodgers, Coalitions Director for Patients’ Rights Action Fund, told LifeNews that her group would keep fighting the bill in the state Senate.

“This process began yesterday with a run on three committees to push it through, with the final committee taking action off the floor and immediately moving the bill to the agenda of the Assembly floor,” Rodgers explained. “I am so proud of our fantastic advocates in New York who have been fighting so hard for so long and so grateful for the impassioned bipartisan testimony in opposition. Our work is not over- we turn now to the Senate and continue to educate them in order to stop this bill.”

LifeNews is on GETTR. Please follow us for the latest pro-life news

“In New York, this bill has been coming up for a decade; we would have been here long ago without your consistent efforts, advocacy, and support! Lives have been saved because your efforts have kept this legislation at bay for so long,” she added.

Bill opponents, including pro-life advocates and disability rights groups, argue the bill poses significant risks. The New York State Catholic Conference and groups like Not Dead Yet have labeled it a “dangerous” step toward devaluing life, particularly for the disabled, elderly, and those with mental health challenges. Critics point to Canada’s assisted dying laws, where reports suggest loosened criteria have led to cases involving non-terminally ill individuals, as a cautionary tale.

Legalizing assisted suicide sends a chilling message that some lives are less worth living, they say and cite concerns that healthcare systems, already strained, might subtly pressure vulnerable patients into choosing death over costly care.

Dr. Eve Slater, a Columbia University professor, has argued that the bill violates the Hippocratic oath’s principle of “do no harm,” warning of a “slippery slope” toward broader misuse.

Pro-life advocates, buoyed by recent victories in states like Maryland, where similar legislation failed in 2024, are mobilizing to block the bill in the Senate. Maryland Right to Life’s campaign, which sent over 8,000 letters to legislators, highlighted risks to veterans and others with chronic conditions, a strategy New York opponents plan to emulate.

The Senate has not yet scheduled a vote, and religious leaders, including the Catholic Conference, continue to lobby against the bill, citing moral and ethical concerns.

If passed by the Senate and signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul, New York would become the 11th state to legalize assisted suicide, joining states like California and New Jersey. Tensions rise have risen since last week’s deadly terrorist attack in Kashmir

Pakistan has alleged that India is planning a military strike on its territory, signaling a further escalation in tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

“Pakistan has credible intelligence that India intends to launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours, using the Pahalgam incident as a false pretext,” Islamabad's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar wrote on X on Tuesday evening.

“Any act of aggression will be met with a decisive response. India will be fully responsible for any serious consequences in the region,” Tarar added.

His statement came after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave his country’s armed forces “full operational freedom” to determine the mode, targets, and timing of a response to the recent terrorist attack in India’s Jammu and Kashmir union territory, which left 26 people dead, mostly tourists.

New Delhi has linked the terrorist attack to Pakistan, reiterating long-standing accusations that its neighbor supports cross-border terrorism and insurgencies.

Islamabad has denied the allegations and, in turn, accused India of backing “terrorist networks” operating on Pakistani soil. The two countries have a long-standing dispute over the Kashmir region, which is de facto divided by the Line of Control established after the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.

On April 22, terrorists opened fire on a group of people in Pahalgam, in the northern part of Jammu and Kashmir. The Resistance Front, believed to be an offshoot of the Pakistan-based jihadist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to punish “the terrorists and their backers.” Indian media reported on Tuesday that four anti-terror operations were underway in Jammu and Kashmir.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif suggested that the Pahalgam attack was a false flag operation staged by India.

In response, New Delhi’s Deputy Envoy to the United Nations, Yojna Patel, condemned Islamabad for making what she called “baseless allegations against India.”

“The Pope must be faithful to the Magisterium of the Church, he cannot do whatever he wants,” Cardinal Gerhard Müller told Abc.es (April 29). He added that the pope's authority is neither absolute nor can it contradict the Word of God.

His examples: A pope cannot say “that lay people can celebrate the Eucharist nor allow Communion in a state of mortal sin. Nor can he govern the Church without the bishops, which is a divine right.”

Regarding fiducia supplicans, Cardinal Müller said that it lacked a “clear theological basis”, to the point of being rejected outright by some bishops' conferences.

“Marriage between a man and a woman is the center and foundation of human existence.”

Steve Witkoff met the Russian president last week in the latest round of diplomacy on the Ukraine conflict

US special envoy Steve Witkoff sought to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire last week that would halt fighting in the Ukraine conflict along the current frontlines, Bloomberg has reported, citing sources. Putin maintained a firm stance during the lengthy meeting, the sources said.

The discussions on Friday marked the latest in a series of contacts between Moscow and Washington in recent months. Witkoff, seen as a key figure in kickstarting negotiations on the Ukraine conflict, has held multiple rounds of talks with senior Russian officials, including at least three meetings with Putin.

People familiar with the process told Bloomberg on Tuesday that Putin insisted any viable peace deal must include formal recognition of the four former Ukrainian regions that joined Russia after referendums in 2022.

Moscow has long said it is open to negotiations but maintains that the status of Crimea – which joined Russia in 2014 – and the four other regions is not up for discussion.  Moscow insists that recognition of the “reality on the ground” is vital for a lasting peace.

Read more Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov. Putin-Witkoff talks ‘constructive’ – Russian presidential aide

Last week, Axios reported that Washington had presented Kiev with what US President Donald Trump described as a “final offer” to end the conflict. Under the proposal, the US is said to be prepared to grant “de jure” recognition of Crimea as part of Russia, and unofficially acknowledge Moscow’s “de facto” control over the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, as well as the regions of Kherson and Zaporozhye.

Vladimir Zelensky’s subsequent declaration that Kiev would never recognize Crimea as Russian prompted a warning from Trump that he risked losing his whole country if he continued stalling talks with Moscow.

Trump, who met with the Ukrainian leader on the sidelines of Pope Francis’ funeral at the Vatican on Saturday, was later asked by journalists if Zelensky was now prepared to “give up” the peninsula. “Oh, I think so, yeah,” he replied.

One source told Bloomberg that negotiations have stalled for now and that progress would likely require direct contact between Putin and Trump.

The two leaders held a two-hour phone call in March, during which they reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a “lasting peace” rather than a temporary solution to the Ukraine conflict.  Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier this month that a Putin-Trump meeting “will take place” but only “at the appropriate time.”

Stone--"When all is said and done, I'd love to cancel all internet
and never use it again. But I can't. I'm addicted to it."

Makow Disclaimer- Due to the rudimentary state of cloning technology, I am not Mike Stone.
I LOVE the Internet. It's not technology. It's magic. The instant worldwide transmission of information is the best guarantee of freedom. The Internet puts the whole world in one room and a wealth of knowledge and entertainment at our finger tips.

    by Mike Stone
    (henrymakow.com)

never thought I'd say this, but I'm an addict.

My Wi-Fi connection has been down for a week and I feel like a heroin junkie suffering from withdrawal. I've become dependent on the internet. I got along just fine before. Now I can't live without it.

I used to see pinch-faced people hunched over their phones, oblivious to everything and everyone around them and think, "What an idiot."

Now I'm just like they are. Actually, I'm worse because I know better. I've known from the beginning how harmful computers, cell phones, and Electromagnetic Frequencies are.

Studies linking cell phones to brain cancer have been around since day one. And it's only gotten worse over time, especially now with 5G radiation. Remember all those 5G towers that went up during the phony pandemic?

While the entire country was locked down, and people were arrested for going to the beach, crews went out all over the country and built 5G towers. Their mission was so secret, it could only be done under cover of a nationwide lockdown.

Now those towers are everywhere and people are dying of cancer left and right.

We know that the fake vaccine for the phony virus has led to an explosion of cancer deaths, but could the constant bombardment of EMFs coming from these 5G towers also play a part? What do you suppose would happen if everyone stopped using computers and cell phones?

Never mind that the gullible, braindead masses would never do such a thing, what do you think would happen if they did? I'm guessing we would see an immediate decrease in sickness, disease, and death

In the short week that I have been without an internet connection, my vision has improved tremendously. Colors are brighter and my visual clarity is stunning.

    apple666.jpg
    Evil to the (Apple) Core

Of course, it's not just danger to our health that computers, cell phones, and internet connections bring, but also danger to our souls.

In fact, I've long suspected that there was something nefarious behind the people who built and foisted computers on us in the first place.

Look at Apple's logo - it's an apple with a bite in it, a direct symbol of defiance to God.

"Well, it's just a logo," you say. "The company's founders wanted to be edgy and cute."

I'm not so sure. Is being edgy and cute why they priced the first Apple computer $666.66?

There's also something sinister and addicting about Wi-Fi. When I'm logged on to my laptop or iPad, I find it extremely hard to take my eyes off the screen. It's as if some strange power wants to keep me locked into the device. Could Wi-Fi devices be inhabited by demons?

Music Industry Insiders Knew What Was Coming

A British pop band from the 80s called The Police actually made an album called "Ghost in the Machine." Substitute the word "ghost" for demon, and the word "machine" for computer device or cell phone and what do you get?

    police.gif
The cover art for the "Ghost in the Machine" album features a hidden 666 message when viewed in a mirror. There are songs on the album about demons and sorcery (Spirits in the Material World), trans-humanism (Rehumanize Yourself), and one-world government (One World, Not Three). And this was back in 1981, before anyone had ever heard of an iPhone.

The front man for The Police was the Illuminati puppet Sting. Did he and his handlers know way back then what was planned for the future?

Illuminati insider John Todd revealed that all master recordings are cursed and inhabited by demons. If the people behind our music put demons into every record, why wouldn't the people who produce our phones, tablets and iPads do the same?

Remember, too, that there was talk of the STUPID-19 vaccines containing luciferase, a compound that works at destroying the "God gene."

Are the people pushing music, computer devices, and fake vaccines working together to indoctrinate us all into a satanic New World Order? If so, it would explain why everyone you know acts like a sleepwalking zombie on their way to hell.

    The Internet Dumbs People Down

Despotic rulers learned long ago that the best way to keep the masses in an uncomprehending state of subservience was to give them a circus. The internet and social media represent the ultimate circus. They've created a new national pastime: virtue signalling.

What is X, formerly Twitter, other than one huge conglomerate of virtue signaling?

Blue Sky is even worse. It's Twitter for communists, Marxists, sexual deviants, and unhinged liberal White women.

When all is said and done, I'd love to cancel all internet and never use it again. But I can't. I'm addicted to it.

The upcoming Australian election will be an illustration of how most Western elections will play out in the near future

Australian voters go to the polls next Saturday – voting in this country is compulsory, unlike in most Western democracies – but this is not a task that the electorate is looking forward to with any degree of enthusiasm, let alone optimism.

The choice that confronts the electorate is a bleak one – one commentator has fittingly described this election as “the most dismal in decades.”

Serious policy debate has been non-existent, with both leaders happy to offer meagre handouts to voters – an electricity price reduction from Prime Minister Albanese and a petrol price reduction from Conservative opposition leader Peter Dutton.

The first term Albanese Labor government has, from any rational viewpoint, proved to be a rank failure and does not deserve to be re-elected – and any competent opposition leader should have been able to win this election easily and dispatch Labor to the opposition benches.

Cost-of-living pressures have increased exponentially over the past three years – energy and food prices have skyrocketed, and house prices and rents in the major cities are now far beyond what ordinary wage earners in this country can afford to pay.

This, according to every poll, is the major issue troubling voters – and the Albanese government has done absolutely nothing to alleviate it.

Australian voters intuitively know, even if they are reluctant to admit it, that both the incumbent Labor government and the Conservative Liberal/National party opposition are incapable of alleviating the cost-of-living crisis. In fact, during the election campaign, both leaders have been reduced to telling outright lies (for example, that heavily subsidized renewable energy projects lead to lower energy prices) about how they will solve the crisis. The electorate’s escalating disenchantment with both major parties should come as no surprise to either Albanese or Dutton.

Read more Prime Minister of Canada and Liberal Party Leader Mark Carney delivers a speech to supporters during a rally on April 23, 2025 in Surrey, Canada. Anti-Trump Liberals win elections in Canada

As yet, however, no political alternative has emerged that offers voters a way out (no matter how illusory) of this seemingly intractable impasse. Australia, in this respect, appears to be a decade or so behind Donald Trump’s America, Nigel Farage’s UK and Marine Le Pen’s France.

Both major parties in Australia are firmly committed to policies that favor the ruling global elites – with the result that the gap between the economic ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ will only grow wider in the future as the cost-of-living crisis intensifies.

This is hardly surprising, given that Australia has always been a colonial political and economic satrap state of both the UK and the US.

So dependent still is Australia on these waning and decrepit colonial empires – they differ only in the way they enforce their respective colonial hegemonies – that our current head of state is King Charles III, and our economic overlords remain, in the apt words of Woody Guthrie, the “money grubbing racket boys” of Wall Street.

What then are we to make of next week’s election?

If almost all recent polls are to be believed, the inept Albanese Labor government appears to be on track to be re-elected with an increased majority.

How is this altogether surprising state of affairs to be explained?

It cannot be explained by the “achievements” of the Albanese government because, as intelligent Labor supporters know, there have been no achievements. Nor can it be explained by Albanese’s political skills or charisma – he is completely lacking in both – although perhaps his dogged blandness and non-threatening demeanor appeal to some voters.

Nor can it be explained by opposition leader Peter Dutton’s gross political incompetence, his brief flirtation with Trump that backfired disastrously when tariffs were imposed and the stock market crashed (Canada’s Liberal leader did not make this mistake), or the fact that he has run probably the worst election campaign in Australian political history.

Read more Opponents of US President Donald Trump rally in Washington. US liberals changing attitudes on free trade – poll

The answer lies rather in the inability of the conservative opposition to formulate an effective alternative political agenda to that of the Labor party – and this failure arises not from Dutton’s manifold personal shortcomings, but from the fundamental ideological division at the heart of all mainstream conservative parties in the West.

A deep-seated ideological division has emerged over the past few decades within these parties: between those adhering to traditional middle-class values (individual autonomy, individual rights, the rule of law, a traditional definition of the family, etc.) and those that have embraced the newer woke ideologies of the emerging global elites  (catastrophic climate change, identity politics, DEI, transgender rights, etc).  This division has both economic and cultural aspects, and in the UK it was intensified by the Brexit referendum.

This ideological division has caused serious ongoing instability within all mainstream conservative parties in the West – in Australia and the UK, for example, these parties have been characterized by endless leadership coups that eventually led voters to throw them out of office in recent years.

One important consequence of this ideological division is that mainstream conservative parties cannot wholeheartedly and openly attack woke global ideologies with any degree of vigor  – because many of their politicians and supporters firmly subscribe to such views.

It is this issue that has crippled Dutton’s election campaign.

The Murdoch press and other conservative commentators have constantly urged Dutton to come out and explicitly attack dominant woke ideologies – that is, to adopt a fully-fledged Trump-like populist political agenda.

Dutton, however, has refused to do so – because it is simply impossible for him to do so within the framework of the mainstream conservative political party that he so tenuously leads.

If he tried to, he would alienate a large segment of his own party as well as a sizable component of conservative voters – thereby causing the coalition parties to split. More importantly, no traditional mainstream political party that is serious about winning an election can at present afford to openly attack dominant global ideologies – a majority of voters adhere to them, and no mainstream party can win office if it alienates a significant segment of these voters.

Read more Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla, co-leaders of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party. Here’s why the AfD is destined for the German government

Dutton, therefore, has found himself in an impossible position.

This was graphically illustrated in one of the recent televised debates, when a journalist asked Dutton if he believed in climate change. Dutton responded by saying “I will leave that to the scientists” – notwithstanding that the opposition is committed to the Paris accords and net zero.

This non-answer, of course, pleased no one. It alienated those conservative and undecided voters who firmly believe in climate change ideology – but it also alienated those conservative voters who believe that the climate change ideology has had lasting and pernicious economic effects.

In refusing to take a firm stand on this key issue, Dutton appears to stand for nothing. Does he really think that disgruntled voters who cannot afford to pay their electricity bills believe that climate change is just a matter for the scientists?

It must surely be obvious to Dutton that, in order to win over those disaffected voters who have been left behind by globalization and who are being increasingly marginalized by the cost-of-living crisis, he has to openly attack dominant woke ideologies like catastrophic climate change – because it is precisely these voters who completely reject, for very sound economic and cultural reasons, such elite doctrines.

This, however, is Dutton’s dilemma – in order to differentiate the opposition from Labor and attract the increasing number of disaffected voters, Dutton is obliged to openly attack dominant woke ideologies, but, as the leader of a mainstream conservative party, he simply cannot do so.

Dutton’s dilemma is also UK opposition leader Kemi Badenoch’s dilemma – and it is a dilemma that right-wing commentators who urge mainstream conservative party leaders to miraculously transform themselves into Trump-like populists utterly fail to understand.

These commentators also fail to appreciate that, apart from the difficulties described above, two further insurmountable problems face conservative leaders seeking to instantly morph into populists – they would have to adopt an isolationist foreign policy stance, and they would have to at least pretend to represent the interests of the displaced working class.

Read more RT Le Pen’s verdict exposes Western Europe’s dangerous trend

Dutton – just like Badenoch – is, however, a fervent Cold War warrior (fiercely anti-Russian and anti-Chinese) and a supporter of the Zelensky regime in Ukraine, as well as being a strident opponent of moderate trade union demands (he even consistently opposes basic wage increases).

Trump, of course, can readily promise to end the conflict in Ukraine and accept endorsement from the head of the Teamsters Union – policy stances utterly impossible for a conservative leader like Dutton to even contemplate.

If the above analysis is correct, and, as nearly all the polls predict, Dutton loses next week’s election, it follows that the conservative coalition in Australia will have no viable long-term future – in much the same way that the UK Conservative party appears to be doomed to political oblivion in the near future. This week’s local elections in the UK will be an important indicator of that party’s fate.

If the Albanese government is returned to office with a majority, as seems likely, Dutton will no doubt be deposed as leader, but in fairness to Dutton, his shadow cabinet colleagues – who he has wisely kept hidden away during the election campaign – are all far less competent politicians than he is.

There is, of course, an alternative scenario – one that mirrors the recent emergence of populist parties in other Western democracies – namely that the coalition parties will split and the right-wing segments of the Liberal and National parties will coalesce to form a new, genuinely populist party with a radically different political program.

Read more US President Donald Trump. Western Europe waging ‘quiet war’ against Trump – Medvedev

This is a distinct possibility – although it may take some time to eventuate and would involve a significant amount of blood-letting and political disruption.

A new populist party would face a revitalized Labor party – energized by winning an election under an uninspiring leader that it did not deserve to win – but still firmly committed to elite ideologies and programs that can only deepen the cost-of-living crisis that continues to brutally divide Australia.

If the conservative coalition’s dilemma is that it cannot attack elite ideologies and programs, the Labor party’s dilemma (much like that of the Democratic party in America and the UK Labour party) is that it is firmly and irretrievably committed to them.

Whatever the consequences of next Saturday’s election it is safe to predict that the chronic ongoing instability that has characterized Australian politics for the past few decades – and politics in the West more generally – will only intensify.

In that sense nothing much will change – and there is a more fundamental historical continuity in the Australian context at work here.

In 1964, Donald Horne, a prominent Australian intellectual, wrote a book titled “The Lucky Country” in which he described Australia as follows: “Australia is a lucky country ruled mainly by second-rate people… It lives on other people’s ideas, and although its ordinary people are adaptable, most of its leaders… lack curiosity about the events that surround them.”

Horne could easily have been writing about Dutton and Albanese and next Saturday’s federal election.

Tensions between the two superpowers reached Cold War heights during the Ukraine conflict, the director has said

There was a point during the last three years of the Ukraine conflict where Russia and the US were teetering on the edge of nuclear war, according to acclaimed filmmaker Oliver Stone.

Speaking to Russian students at the ‘Knowledge.First’ event in Moscow on Tuesday, Stone spoke out against the US role in the Ukraine conflict, as well as its biased coverage in Western media.

The Hollywood legend suggested that over the past three years, Moscow and Washington have relived the Cold War spike in tensions that previously culminated in the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, and said he hoped a corresponding wind-down would follow.

The United States and the Soviet Union came close to a nuclear confrontation during the Cold War after the USSR positioned medium-range ballistic missiles in Cuba, partly in response to the earlier deployment of American nukes in Turkey.

”I want to emphasize to you students how very close we came to World War III because of this awful leadership,” he said.

”We bring a great waste of our resources, and the height of this futility was a war which [former US President Joe] Biden recently dedicated to weakening Russia,” Stone said. “It is a retrograde war.”

Western media coverage of the conflict and Russia has shocked him during the past three years, the director admitted.

”Even at the height of the Cold War, we didn’t treat Russia like this,” he said. Whereas now, the media has trained people in the West to equate Russia with President Vladimir Putin, Stone added.

This is a tragic substitution of hatred for intelligence.

“The propaganda state in the West is an incredible empire. Far further and stronger than I ever imagined. You are unable to see the inside of the matrix,” he said.

Straight out of the works of George Orwell.

While the anti-war filmmaker has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, he has criticized Biden and the US “neoconservative movement” for the Ukraine conflict.

Stone produced the 2016 documentary ‘Ukraine on Fire’ showing the role Washington played in the 2014 Maidan coup that overthrew Kiev’s democratically-elected president Viktor Yanukovich.

The bloc’s attempts to belittle the Soviet role in the victory over Nazism are a “disgrace,” the filmmaker has told RT

Attempts by EU elites to diminish the significance of the USSR’s contribution to the victory over Nazism are a “perversion of history,” Oscar-winning American movie director Oliver Stone has told RT ahead of World War II Victory Day celebrations in Russia.

The bloc’s “elitist leadership” has distorted the message that World War II provides to humanity, the filmmaker has said. “I’m shocked by it, by [what] is happening,” he stated, calling it “a shame” and “a disgrace that we forgot or pretend to [have forgotten]” about the sacrifices the Soviet Union made during the war. Stone also said he did not believe people in Europe “buy this at all.”

“I think the people don’t agree with the government,” Stone maintained, going on to say that “the futility of this campaign against Russia by the EU” is obvious to “anybody, who reads history [books] and is intelligent.” The director of ‘Platoon’ and ‘JFK’ expressed his doubts that “fascism is popular” nowadays and stated instead that European elites had lost their way because of their “worship of the EU.”

“We are not back to the times of Hitler, but what is happening is a loss of perspective and we need to get back to a sense of reason,” Stone told RT as he called on Western leaders to “listen to the Russians” instead of antagonizing them.

He also expressed his hope that the US and Russia would manage to mend their relationship, opening the way to a better future for humanity. “Russia and the United States are a great partnership, as is China, by the way, and I think we could have a world that is much safer… if we all get together and realize that it’s a multilateral world.”

US President Donald Trump’s administration has been engaged in efforts to restore bilateral ties with Russia and resolve the Ukraine conflict.

On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that America now has a “better” understanding of the Russian position on the crisis. Moscow’s key conditions for ending the conflict are Ukraine’s neutrality, demilitarization, and recognition of the new territorial reality on the ground.

Last week, Trump also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was easier to deal with than Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky.

Russian officials maintain they have always been ready to engage in peace talks, provided the discussions aim for a permanent solution that addresses the root causes of the conflict. Moscow has rejected any temporary agreement, explaining that it could be used by Kiev and its backers to rearm the Ukrainian military.

An Executive Order signed by President Trump reversed Biden-era Executive Orders that blatantly violated the Hyde Amendment as well as other similar riders and amendments. The Biden-era Orders reversed were: Executive Order 14076 which mandated a whole-of-government approach of protecting unlimited abortions and imposing draconian measures on violations and Executive Order 14079 which recategorized abortion as “health care.”
    • Ended the Federal Funding of Abortion Overseas – President Trump reinstated Mexico City Policy and the United States also reentered the Geneva Consensus Declaration. Co-founded by the United States in 2020 under President Trump, the Declaration is a coalition of more than 30 countries united in affirming the inherent dignity of every human being, the importance of women’s health without endorsing abortion, and the sovereignty of nations to protect life through their own laws.
    • Working to Stop the Federal Funding of Abortion – President Trump stopped federal funds from being used to reimburse travel expenses for abortions by the Department of Defense, stopped the Department of Veterans Affairs from allowing VA hospitals to perform abortions and stopped the Department of Health and Human Services from paying for abortions for those who entered the country illegally.

The Woodlands Fire Department hosted a special blessing ceremony Monday to unveil their new Safe Haven Baby Box!

“Today marks a meaningful step forward for The Woodlands Township, the unveiling of a Safe Haven Baby Box. It’s an initiative that reflects the compassion and care that define our community and strengthens our commitment to protecting those in crisis,” said Vice Chairman of The Woodlands Township, Craig Eissler, at the event. “I’m proud of what this says about our community.”

A Safe Haven Baby Box is temperature-controlled, padded, and monitored, providing a safe and anonymous option to parents wishing to surrender their newborns. When someone opens the door of the box, a silent alarm alerts firefighters, who then take the baby to a hospital for a medical evaluation.

This is Houston’s first Baby Box, and the sixth in Texas! The launch of this box comes after the Houston area saw six infant abandonments reported last summer alone, as well as the heartbreaking discovery of an urn containing a fetus in a pond at Copper Sage Park last April.

“It really lit more of a fire under us,” said Dr. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, Director of The Woodlands Township Board, reflecting on the urgent need for more life-affirming options for parents facing desperate circumstances.

Texas’ “Baby Moses” law already provides a pathway for parents to safely surrender infants under 60 days old at fire stations, hospitals, or police stations that are staffed 24/7. All 50 states have some form of Safe Haven laws, though the specifics vary.

These laws, and resources like Safe Haven Baby Boxes, offer critical lifelines for parents who find themselves overwhelmed and desperate, ensuring that every child has the chance at Life and safety.

We are thankful for The Woodlands Township and their commitment to saving babies in their area! This new Safe Haven Box is yet another resource to help ensure that another baby is not found abandoned in our state.

The feast day of the great Saint Catherine of Siena is on April 29.

Known for her holiness, Saint Catherine was a mystic, theologian, philosopher, and spiritual advisor.

Famously, she helped convince Pope Gregory XI to return to Rome (the papacy had resided in Avignon, France, for decades).

Today, she is honored as a Doctor of the Church and is the patron saint of Europe, Rome, and Italy. She is generally revered as one of the greatest saints in Church history.

Despite all of her accomplishments, one of the most inspiring and instructive events of Saint Catherine of Siena's life was her death.

Attached to the end of her most famous work, The Dialogue of Saint Catherine of Siena, is a letter written by Ser Barduccio di Piero Canigiani, where he describes his eyewitness experience of the final moments of Saint Catherine.

Here’s what he says happened to Saint Catherine of Siena:

Just before her 33rd birthday, Saint Catherine became ill such that eating and drinking became difficult for her. After a few weeks of suffering, she had a stroke so terrible that her caregivers thought she had died. However, while they were mourning her apparent passing, she suddenly awoke, stood up, and “did not seem the same person as she who had fallen.”

That’s when things started to get interesting.

Her bodily suffering increased, but so did her devotion to prayer. She would pray 1 to 2 hours in the morning, walk a mile to Saint Peter’s Basilica (she was in Rome), and spend the rest of the day there in prayer, “returning to the house so worn out that she seemed a corpse.”

Finally, her body gave out again, and she was confined to her bed. But her suffering was not only physical, but spiritual:

“[She suffered] the infinite afflictions of the soul which she derived from the consideration of the sins which she saw being committed against God, and from the dangers ever more grave to which she knew the Holy Church to be exposed, on account of which she remained greatly overcome, and both internally and externally tormented.”

These sufferings continued for the next eight weeks. Yet as a new wave of pain washed over her,

“She would joyously raise her eyes and her heart to God and say: ‘Thanks to You, oh eternal Spouse, for granting such graces afresh every day to me, Your miserable and most unworthy handmaid!'”

This continual suffering took a physical toll:

“[her body] was reduced to such a state that it seemed like a corpse in a picture” – but with an important qualification: “though I speak not of the face, which remained ever angelical and breathed forth devotion.”

This all continued until the morning of the next Sunday, when she seemed to become aware that her end was drawing near and asked for absolution from a priest for her sins. A priest arrived and offered her both absolution and Extreme Unction (Anointing of the Sick).

Then suddenly, it appeared to those around Saint Catherine of Siena that she was experiencing a demonic attack:

“After this unction she began altogether to change, and to make various signs with her head and her arms as if to show that she was suffering from grave assaults of demons, and remained in this calamitous state for an hour and a half, half of which time having been passed in silence, she began to say: 'I have sinned! Oh Lord, have mercy on me!'“And this, as I believe, she repeated more than sixty times, raising each time her right arm, and then letting it fall and strike the bed. Then, changing her words, she said as many times again, but without moving her arms, 'Holy God, have mercy on me!'"Finally, she employed the remainder of the above-mentioned time with many other formulas of prayer, both humble and devout, expressing various acts of virtue, after which her face suddenly changed from gloom to angelic light, and her tearful and clouded eyes became serene and joyous…”

Then Saint Catherine of Siena sat up, fixed her eyes on the crucifix in the room, and prayed aloud:

It is my fault, oh eternal Trinity, that I have offended You so miserably with my negligence, ignorance, ingratitude, and disobedience, and many other defects. Wretch that I am! For I have not observed Your commandments, either those which are given in general to all, or those which Your goodness laid upon me in particular! Oh, mean creature that I am!

“Saying which, she struck her breast, repeating her confession, and continued: I have not observed Your precept, with which You commanded me to seek always to give You honor, and to spend myself in labors for my neighbor, while I, on the contrary, have fled from labors, especially where they were necessary.

“Did You not command me, oh, my God! to abandon all thought of myself and to consider solely the praise and glory of Your Name in the salvation of souls, and with this food alone, taken from the table of the most holy Cross, to comfort myself? But I have sought my own consolation. You did ever invite me to bind myself to You alone by sweet, loving, and fervent desires, by tears and humble and continuous prayers for the salvation of the whole world and for the reformation of the holy Church, promising me that, on account of them, You would use mercy with the world, and give new beauty to Your Spouse; but I, wretched one, have not corresponded with Your desire, but have remained asleep in the bed of negligence.

“Oh, unhappy that I am! You have placed me in charge of souls, assigning to me so many beloved sons, that I should love them with singular love and direct them to You by the way of Life, but I have been to them nothing but a mirror of human weakness; I have had no care of them; I have not helped them with continuous and humble prayer in Your presence, nor have I given them sufficient examples of the good life or the warnings of salutary doctrine.

“Oh, mean creature that I am! With how little reverence have I received Your innumerable gifts, the graces of such sweet torments and labors which it pleased You to accumulate on this fragile body, nor have I endured them with that burning desire and ardent love with which You sent them to me.

“Alas! oh, my Love, through Your excessive goodness You chose me for Your spouse, from the beginning of my childhood, but I was not faithful enough; in fact, I was unfaithful to You, because I did not keep my memory faithful to You alone and to Your most high benefits; nor have I fixed my intelligence on the thought of them only or disposed my will to love You immediately with all its strength.”

Then Saint Catherine of Siena requested a plenary indulgence from the priest, saying the pope granted it to her.

She turned her attention to those present and, among other things, asked them to forgive her for not caring enough about their salvation. She exhorted everyone to love and follow Jesus above all other things.

She turned her attention back to God, and, making the Sign of the Cross, prayed aloud,

“You, oh Lord, call me, and I come to You, not through my merits, but through Your mercy alone, which I ask of You, in virtue of Your Blood!” and many times she called out, “Blood, Blood!”

Finally, imitating the example of Christ, she said, “Father, into Your Hands I commend my soul and my spirit,” and died.

Ser Barduccio di Piero Canigiani reports she died “sweetly, with a face all shining and angelical, she bent her head, and gave up the ghost.”

Her body was left unburied for two days, “without any odor being perceptible, her body remaining so pure, intact, and fragrant, that her arms, her neck, and her legs remained as flexible as if she were still alive.”

Saint Catherine of Siena, pray for us!

The overlords of Carbondale, Illinois seem to run their city like East Berlin.

With the help of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), one pro-life resident may take legal action, after he was threatened with criminal charges for holding up signs in a public area near an abortion business.

Brandon, a sidewalk counselor and founder of Gospel for Life was standing peacefully outside his local baby killing center on April 16, when the city’s thought police, under the direction from their attorney, demanded he remove his signs.

Why? Because they stated super offensive things, like “Please don’t abort your baby” and “Free baby supplies,” in an effort to convince desperate mothers to seek options other than putting down their unborn children.

It would seem that apparently violates some sign ordinance, according to the officer who approached Brandon. The ACLJ says the Constitution claims otherwise.

Brandon responded that he had the right to constitutionally protected speech, to which the officer reportedly snapped “No, you don’t.”

The authorities called for backup, threatening their pro-life subject with citation and criminal charges.

“Let’s be clear,” wrote the ACLJ in a response.

“The First Amendment protects the right to speak out in public spaces – especially on matters of public concern.”

The center noted multiple courts “have consistently struck down vague ordinances and arbitrary enforcement,” that “chill” that fundamental right,” calling Carbondale’s actions “not only unconstitutional,” but “dangerous.”

If the thought police refuse to correct course immediately, Brandon’s lawyers are promising to sue.

An explosive new study is revealing that the abortion drug is significantly more dangerous than government health agencies have previously claimed. The Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC) published a report Monday detailing the dangers associated with the use of the abortion drug mifepristone. The study found that, although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) claims that less than half a percent of women experience serious complications, the actual rate of damage done by the drug is significantly higher.

Touted as the “largest-known study of the abortion pill,” the EPPC report examined data from an insurance database, covering 865,727 prescribed mifepristone abortions committed between 2017 and 2023. Here are some of the study’s most important findings.

More than 1 in 10 Women Experience Complications from Mifepristone

According to the EPPC’s report, 10.93% of women who used the abortion drug mifepristone experienced serious complications within 45 days as a result. Complications included sepsis (0.10% of cases), infection (1.34%), transfusion (0.15%), hemorrhage (3.31%), abortion-related hospitalization (0.66%), abortion-related emergency room visit (4.73%), ectopic pregnancy (0.35%), unspecified other abortion-specific complications (5.68%), and other life-threatening adverse events (0.22%), including cardiac and pulmonary events, thrombosis, anaphylaxis, and the necessity of surgery. In nearly 3% of instances, use of mifepristone to commit abortion was followed by surgical abortion because the drug failed.

EPPC’s report noted, “Simply stated, mifepristone, as used in real-world conditions, is not ‘safe and effective.’”

Please follow LifeNews.com on Gab for the latest pro-life news and info, free from social media censorship.

The FDA’s Research on Mifepristone Is Inadequate

The EPPC’s report finds that complications arising from mifepristone are at least 22 times more common than the 0.5% of cases touted by the FDA. The new report is, according to EPPC, “the most comprehensive study of chemical abortion safety ever conducted in the U.S.” It relies on data collected from 28 times more mifepristone abortions than the FDA’s research does and, further, is more recent and more accurate to real-world circumstances. The EPPC noted that the FDA relies “entirely on data from more than a decade ago” from “a prescreened group of generally healthy women recruited into various clinical trials conducted at different times around the world.”

The cases examined by the organization “are broadly representative of the women who obtain mifepristone abortions in the U.S.” and “receive (or fail to receive) pre- and post-abortion healthcare of the real-world quality that prevails in the America today, not the carefully controlled regimen of care that ordinarily prevails in a clinical trial.”

The FDA Needs to Revise Its Standards for Mifepristone Prescription

Given the results of the report, the EPPC made several recommendations for the FDA to revise its policy regarding the prescription and use of mifepristone and “reinstate the original patient safety protocols that were required when mifepristone was first approved” in 2000. At that time, prerequisites for a mifepristone prescription included three in-person physician visits, the drug could only be prescribed by a physician, could only be dispensed in a physician’s office, and had to be taken in a physician’s office. There were also requirements for a follow-up physician visit and for adverse event reporting.

In 2016, under then-President Barack Obama, the safeguards were weakened, allowing for the drug to be prescribed up to 10 weeks instead of seven, removing the requirement for a physician to be the one prescribing the drug and eliminating the mandate that the manufacturer report any adverse events to the FDA other than death. The in-person dispensing requirement in the physician’s office, however, remained intact. In 2021, the Biden administration watered down the safeguards even further by eliminating the in-person visit requirement and the requirement for the drug to be dispensed in the physician’s office.

"We Are Refilling The Reserve Now": Energy Secretary Wright Confirms SPR Refill After Biden's Reckless Drain

The effort to refill America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve, depleted under President Biden in 2022, is progressing slowly under the Trump administration, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in a CNBC interview this week.

"We are refilling the reserve now, and we will continue to refill the reserve the whole time I'm in office," Wright stated, warning it could take years. He criticized Biden’s decision to release oil from the SPR as "such an irresponsible action to drain that reserve so quickly for electoral reasons."

The Biden administration authorized a historic sale of 180 million barrels over six months to fight surging gasoline prices and inflation, and in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, according to Newsmax.

Wright added that the rapid drawdown damaged infrastructure: "It was drained so fast, it did some damage to the facilities. And so, right now, we only can fill two of the four major salt caverns we have, so we are doing repair work on the other two." He said he’s pushing for more funding to speed up the repairs and refill effort.

Recall back in March we noted that Wright told Bloomberg in an interview that the Energy Department was preparing to purchase $20 billion worth of crude oil as the first step in refilling the nation's depleted SPR to a sufficient level.

At the time, he said the initiative, which may take years, would restore holdings "just close to the top."

The initiative, which may take years, would restore holdings "just close to the top" to maintain efficient operating status, Wright said in an interview on Thursday in Louisiana after touring a natural-gas export plant. Trump said he planned replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve during his inaugural address in January, part of a broad embrace of conventional energy that's also included pledges to boost domestic oil production and roll back regulation. The storage facility — the largest of its kind — is meant to provide a cushion to guard against crude supply disruptions. "Ultimately, that's what it was built for — to have the maximum security for the American people," Wright said. -BBG

Currently trading at approximately $61 per barrel, WTI has decreased by about 13.76% since the beginning of the year and the re-escalation of trade disputes, particularly between the U.S. and China, has dampened global economic outlooks, leading to reduced demand projections for oil

Recall, under Biden's first term, the reckless administration dangerously drained the SPR from around 650 million barrels to about 395 million.

Bloomberg noted back in March: "Congress will need to approve funding to refill the system, which isn't guaranteed. Energy Department funds for purchases ran out after the Biden administration bought about 60 million barrels."

Trump Order Strips Funding From Sanctuary Cities Engaged In 'Insurrection'

Authored by Bethany Blankley via The Center Square,

President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Monday to enhance national security and enforce federal immigration and criminal law in so-called sanctuary jurisdictions and take a range of actions against those obstructing enforcement, including eliminating their federal funding.

Trump’s “Protecting American Communities from Criminal Aliens” executive order directs the departments of Justice and Homeland Security to publish a list of state and local jurisdictions that obstruct federal immigration enforcement and take action against them.

“Federal supremacy with respect to immigration, national security, and foreign policy is axiomatic,” the order states, citing Article II and Article IV, Section 4, of the U.S. Constitution, vesting the federal government with the power to protect national security and “protect each of [the States] against Invasion.”

The invasion argument was first made by 55 Texas counties that declared an invasion citing Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, The Center Square exclusively reported.

“The prior administration allowed unchecked millions of aliens to illegally enter the United States,” the order states, creating a public safety and national security crisis, exacerbated by transnational criminal organizations, terrorists and others intent on harming Americans.

Trump’s latest executive order, as many of his previous ones, is likely to be challenged in court.

Citing an invasion at the southern border, which Trump officially declared on his first day in office, his administration is now responding to some state and local officials who “violate, obstruct, and defy” federal immigration enforcement, the order states.

Local jurisdictions who obstruct federal deportation efforts are engaging in “a lawless insurrection against the supremacy of Federal law and the Federal Government’s obligation to defend the territorial sovereignty of the United States,” it states.

In addition to creating “intolerable national security risks,” the order states sanctuary jurisdictions’ “nullification efforts often violate Federal criminal laws, including those prohibiting obstruction of justice, … unlawfully harboring or hiring illegal aliens …, conspiracy against the United States …, and conspiracy to impede Federal law enforcement.”

The order also notes that “assisting aliens in violating Federal immigration law could also violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act,” an argument made by America First Legal, The Center Square reported. In January, AFL launched a resource to help Americans fight sanctuary policies and sent letters to more than 250 elected officials demanding that they comply with federal law or expect to be sued.

“Concealing, harboring, or shielding aliens could also trigger liability under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) statute,” AFL said.

“Civil RICO remedies are available to ‘[a]ny person injured in his business or property by reason of a violation’ and shall recover threefold the damages he sustains and the cost of the suit, including a reasonable attorney’s fee.’”

Trump’s order also states that those who assist illegal foreign nationals might be violating federal laws that prohibit discrimination against Americans and might be violating Americans’ civil rights.

In order for the federal government “to restore the enforcement of United States law,” Trump directed the attorney general and Secretary of Homeland Security to publish a list of states and local jurisdictions that obstruct the federal immigration enforcement. Each jurisdiction is to be notified of its alleged violation of federal immigration and criminal law.

Those that remain in defiance will lose all federal funding, the order says. The AG and DHS secretary are directed to work with the Director of the Office of Management and Budget to identify, suspend and terminate all federal funds allocated to sanctuary jurisdictions, including grants and contracts. They are also directed to “pursue all necessary legal remedies and enforcement measures to end these violations and bring such jurisdictions into compliance” with U.S. laws.

The order also prevents all federal benefits from being spent on illegal foreign nationals living in sanctuary jurisdictions, including through private entities. It requires federal agencies to create a mechanism “to ensure appropriate eligibility verification is conducted for individuals receiving federal public benefits” under Title 8 of federal immigration law.

It also creates provisions for the AG, DHS secretary and agency heads to “identify and take appropriate action to stop the enforcement of state and local laws, regulations, policies, and practices favoring aliens over any groups of American citizens that are unlawful, preempted by federal law, or otherwise unenforceable.”

This includes state laws that provide in-state higher education tuition “to aliens but not to out-of-State American citizens that may violate” federal law or “that favor aliens in criminal charges or sentencing.”

The order was issued after the Trump administration already warned sanctuary jurisdictions like Massachusetts, whose officials remained steadfast in their policies to protect illegal foreign nationals. They continued to do so after federal authorities arrested alleged terrorists tied to the murder of U.S. troops and hundreds of criminal illegal foreign nationals were charged or convicted of committing violent crimes against Massachusetts residents, The Center Square reported.

Last week Gov. Sanders signed a good law to prohibit certain abortions if Arkansas’ pro-life laws ever change.

Since 2022, abortion in Arkansas has been prohibited except to save the life of the mother. This year the Arkansas Legislature passed a law clarifying and closing possible loopholes in the state’s pro-life laws.

Before the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision overturning Roe v. Wade, Arkansas enacted dozens of different laws restricting and prohibiting abortion — including laws protecting unborn children from being aborted because of their sex or because they may be at risk for Down Syndrome. Technically, those good laws are still on the books, and they could be enforced if a federal court ever blocked Arkansas’ laws that generally prohibit abortion.

Please follow LifeNews.com on Gab for the latest pro-life news and info, free from social media censorship.

S.B. 591 by Sen. Clint Penzo (R — Springdale) and Rep. Karilyn Brown (R — Sherwood) would prohibit abortions performed due to the unborn baby’s race if Arkansas’ pro-life laws are ever amended or struck down.

This good law passed with overwhelming support in the Arkansas House and Arkansas Senate. On April 22, Gov. Sanders signed it — making it Act 973 of 2025.

Family Council was very pleased to work with our friends in the legislature to secure passage of Act 973. We appreciate lawmakers’ continued dedication to upholding the sanctity and dignity of human life, and we appreciate Gov. Sanders signing this good law.

News organizations are increasingly controlled by wealthy owners or governments, the Liberties group has said

Media freedom is deteriorating in a number of EU countries, according to a recent report by the Civil Liberties Union for Europe (Liberties). The group has claimed that pluralism and freedom of speech are “under attack” as media companies become increasingly controlled by governments and wealthy owners.

In the Media Freedom 2025 report, the authors have outlined a range of pressures facing journalists and independent outlets, including legal and physical threats, declining ownership transparency, and political interference in public broadcasting.

The group has warned that these factors have had a significant impact on the work of the media, limiting the diversity of opinions and the independence of publications, reducing public trust in content.

Liberties has identified Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Croatia, France, Hungary, Slovakia and Spain as among the EU member states where the situation is most alarming. According to the report, public broadcasters in several of these countries are routinely manipulated by political interests, and legal protections for media workers remain weak or poorly enforced.

The group also recorded at least 156 physical or verbal attacks on journalists in 2024, including cases of police intimidation and criminal defamation charges. In some states, the report notes, strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPPs) are still being used to silence critical reporting, despite the EU’s recent efforts to curb their abuse.

Read more European Quarter buildings in Brussels, Belgium, on September 30, 2024. EU denies Russian news agency accreditation

Liberties also noted that Russian and Belarusian journalists working in the bloc have repeatedly faced threats and harassment and become targets of spyware, raising concerns over their safety and what effect it could be having on their work.

Earlier this month, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported that the EU had denied its journalists accreditation for 2025, citing sanctions regulations. The outlet has appealed the decision, referencing the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and earlier EU statements that had assured journalistic activity would not be restricted.

The rejection follows a broader crackdown on Russian media in the EU since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022. The European Council has banned Russian outlets such as RT, Sputnik and RIA across the bloc. In its 16th sanctions package adopted this February, the bloc also added eight more Russian news outlets to the blacklist, including Lenta.ru and the Zvezda TV channel.

Russian officials have repeatedly condemned the bans, arguing EU officials are afraid of people seeing a viewpoint that differs from the Western mainstream narrative and drawing their own conclusions about current events.

"The outage paralyzed digital payment systems, disrupted communications, and brought various modes of transportation networks to an apocalyptic standstill. While a Spanish judge has launched an investigation into whether a cyberattack was responsible, early indications suggest the culprit is likely net zero.

Here's an excerpt from Michael Shellenberger at PUBLIC, who provided an uncomfortable truth about the unhinged liberals in Europe who have been hellbent on retiring fossil fuel power and nuclear generation plants, swapping for unreliable solar and wind:

Despite all these warnings, political and regulatory energy in Europe remained focused on accelerating renewable deployment, not upgrading the grid's basic stability. In Spain, solar generation continued to climb rapidly through 2023 and early 2024.

Coal plants closed. Nuclear units retired. On many spring days by 2025, Spain's midday solar generation exceeded its total afternoon demand, leading to frequent negative electricity prices. The system was being pushed to the limit. And today, at 12:35 pm, it broke."

The newly-released documents detail times spent in the country by infamous death camp doctor Josef Mengele and Holocaust architect Adolf Eichmann, amongst others

The Argentinean government has made public almost 2,000 declassified secret service files on hundreds of Nazi war criminals who fled to the Latin American country after the Third Reich’s defeat in the Second World War.

According to estimates, as many as 10,000 Nazis utilized so-called ‘ratlines’ to escape as the Axis powers collapsed. Infamously, around half of them are believed to have chosen Argentina –known for its reluctance to grant extradition requests — as their refuge.

The 1,850 files uploaded online by the Argentinian National Archives (AGN) on Monday included intelligence reports, photographs, and police records. The documents on “Nazi activities in Argentina” are now available to all “thanks to extensive restoration and digitization work,” the AGN said in a statement.

Among other things, the papers depict how the likes of Josef Mengele, Erich Priebke and Adolf Eichmann were able to make it to Argentina and what they did in the country.

Mengele was a physician and Nazi SS officer, nicknamed the ‘Angel of Death’ for his inhumane medical experiments on prisoners at the Auschwitz concentration camp. The published records show he entered Argentina in 1949 under the name of Gregor Helmut and then openly lived in the country.

“References obtained from different sectors of the German community allowed us to learn that he was commander of the Assault Guards and, at the same time, doctor in the German extermination camp of Auschwitz,” one of the files on Mengele read.

The newly-published papers also included the 1995 extradition documents for Priebke, a mid-level SS commander, who had been in charge of a unit responsible for the massacre of 335 Italian civilians at the Ardeatine Caves outside Rome in 1944.

They also shed light on the time that Eichmann, a high-ranking SS official often described as the logistics chief of the Holocaust, spent in Argentina. He was kidnapped in Buenos Aires in 1960 by Mossad agents and hanged for his crimes by Israel two years later.

The files in question were declassified in 1992 under a decree from then-Argentine President Carlos Menem, but they could only be viewed in a specially designated room at the AGN.

Hungary’s parliament has approved a bill to withdraw from the International Criminal Court

Hungary’s National Assembly has voted to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has announced. He described the institution as biased and discredited.

The decision was passed with a more than two-thirds majority on Tuesday.

“The Hungarian Parliament just voted to withdraw from the @IntlCrimCourt. With this decision, we refuse to be part of a politicized institution that has lost its impartiality and credibility,” Szijjarto wrote on X.

Earlier this month, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban accused the ICC of losing its impartiality and becoming a “political tribunal.” He announced his intention to end Budapest’s participation during a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Hungary.

Last November, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as three figures in the Hamas leadership, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

READ MORE: ICC responds to appeal of Netanyahu arrest warrant

US President Donald Trump has sanctioned the ICC and its chief prosecutor Karim Khan for going after top Israeli officials. The US is not a party to the Rome Statute, the ICC’s founding treaty, and neither are China, Russia, and Israel, among others.

In March of 2023, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova over alleged unlawful deportation and transfer of children from former Ukrainian territories. Moscow has criticized the order as “null and void,” insisting that the children were evacuated from the front line for their own safety, and can be returned to their legal guardians upon request.

The judicial body lacks the ability to enforce its warrants, and relies on member states to detain and transfer suspects.

Hungary’s withdrawal requires notifying the UN Secretary-General, after which it will take effect one year later. Until then, Hungary remains obligated to cooperate with the ICC under the terms of the Rome Statute.

Arizona Legislature Passes Bitcoin Reserve Bills, Moving Closer To Stockpiling Crypto

Authored by Turner Wright via CoinTelegraph.com,

Lawmakers in the Arizona House of Representatives passed two bills that could allow the state to adopt a reserve using Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.

In a third reading on April 28 of Senate Bill 1025 (SB1025), a proposal to amend Arizona’s statutes to allow for a strategic BTC reserve, 31 members of the Arizona House voted in favor of the bill, with 25 opposed. A similar bill, SB1373, to establish a state-level digital assets reserve, passed with 37 lawmakers in favor and 19 voting nay.

“This bill basically takes the approach that probably 15 other states are considering the same legislation nationwide that allows the treasurer to invest up to 10% into, probably mainly Bitcoin but other things as well,” said State Representative Jeff Weninger on SB1025.

“I think this probably would start as a ‘may’ for the foreseeable future, but as things continue to pivot towards Bitcoin and these things, would have that already in place in the future.”

Voting for SB1025 in the Arizona House of Representatives on April 28. Source: Arizona State Legislature

The approvals bring the bills closer than any other state-level initiative in the US to getting a cryptocurrency or Bitcoin strategic reserve signed into law. Similar legislation proposed in New Hampshire passed the state’s House in April and is expected to head to the Senate for a full floor vote soon.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs announced on April 17 that she intended to veto any bill until lawmakers had a “serious, bipartisan funding solution that protects healthcare for Arizonans with disabilities.” However, with the passage of such legislation on April 24, the governor could be more open to signing SB1025 or SB1373 into law.

Federal plans to establish a national crypto reserve

The state-level efforts to create Bitcoin reserves come amid a push from US President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers to do the same in the federal government.

Trump signed an executive order in March with a proposal for a “Strategic Bitcoin Reserve” and a “Digital Asset Stockpile.”

Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis, a crypto advocate, proposed that Congress pass legislation that could allow the US government to hold more than 1 million BTC, in part through crypto seized through civil or criminal forfeiture. Some lawmakers have suggested Lummis’s bill was an attempt by Congress to codify Trump’s executive order into law.

Pakistan Shoots Down Indian Spy Drone Over Kashmir As Forces On High Alert

Pakistan's military says it shot down an Indian spy drone in the Kashmir region, soon after the country's defense chief warned that intelligence shows an Indian army incursion is 'imminent'.

The unmanned drone reportedly breached the Line of Control (LOC) in Kashmir, Pakistani state-run media said, and it was subsequently shot down amid the air space incursion. Pakistani defense officials described to The Associated Press that the drone flew hundreds of feet into Pakistani-administered Kashmir.

Illustrative: the type of Indian drone believed downed in Kashmir.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif the day prior confirmed the nation's military is currently on high alert and he had "reinforced our forces" - after multiple days of sporadic exchanges of gunfire along unspecified border posts.

"In that situation, some strategic decisions have to be taken, so those decisions have been taken," Asif told Reuters, also ominously describing that Islamabad would only consider using its nuclear arsenal in response to "a direct threat to our existence."

There's as yet been no noticeable incursion, and it remains unclear what evidence for this forecast Pakistan's military and intelligence services might have.

Last Tuesday's deadly militant attack on tourists in Kashmir, which saw 26 Indian tourists get executed after the gunmen sought to identify Hindus among the group, resulted in the Indian government promptly accusing Pakistan of harboring the Islamist terrorists which committed the atrocity, which Islamabad angrily rejected.

The nuclear-armed neighbors have already fought two historic wars over the Kashmir region, and fears are rising that another one may soon be on the horizon - also after both sides have sent military reinforcements to the respective regions they administer. Amid a massive manhunt, India identified two detained suspected militants as Pakistani.

The New York Times described Saturday that "Pakistani solders fired at an Indian position first and India responded in kind, according to local news reports, which said that "the exchange was brief and that there were no casualties." Precise locations of these live fire incidents have not been disclosed.

Missile and nuclear saber-rattling has meanwhile ensued:

India’s navy test-fired missiles on Sunday, showcasing its ability to carry out “long-range, precision offensive” strikes, as tensions with Pakistan rise after last week’s terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 civilians.

“Indian Navy ships undertook successful multiple anti-ship firings to re-validate and demonstrate readiness of platforms, systems, and crew for long-range precision offensive strike,” the navy posted on X, as the prime minister, Narendra Modi, promised a “harsh response” to the attack at a tourist site, the deadliest against civilians in Kashmir in 25 years.

As for the other side, a Pakistani minister, Hanif Abbasi (though he's not in defense or security) days ago warned that Pakistan's nuclear arsenal of more than 130 missiles was "not kept as models" and was aimed “only for India … these ballistic missiles, all of them are targeted at you" - The Guardian noted.

The United Nations has urged restraint, and Pakistan has called for an independent investigation into the Kashmir terror attack, which it says it had nothing to do with. It has also called on Russia and China to mediate and assist with a potential investigation.

If gunfire continues to be exchanged between the two militaries, also amid reports that Pakistani visa holders are being promptly booted from the country amid the diplomatic crisis - clashes could accelerate toward open war.

India's Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah has meanwhile said there must be a "decisive fight against terrorism and its origin." Indian officials have continued to heap accusations that ultimately Islamabad either supports these groups or at least turns a blind eye.

    * * *

Pakistan just warned of imminent India military action against it in response to a recent terror attack in Kashmir, to which China stated: “As Pakistan's ironclad friend and all-weather strategic cooperative partner, China fully understands Pakistan's legitimate security concerns and supports Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty and security interests,” with rumours it and Turkey are sending Pakistan weapons.

India will surely be looking for mirroring statements and actions from those who want more trade with it. The UK and the EU aren’t going to provide them; BRICS is a joke given what C just said about I, via P; and that only leaves the US.

The 2025 Federal election resulted in an increase of new pro-life MPs and the re-election of every pro-life incumbent.

“We congratulate and celebrate the 42 pro-life candidates whom we green-lit and who were elected last night,” said Jeff Gunnarson, National President of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC). “We especially congratulate the six new pro-life MPs who ran excellent campaigns and encourage them to bring the pro-life voice into our country’s hall of power.”

While the election was hailed by many as the most important in decades, tragically, the leaders of the mainstream parties abandoned the over 100,000 preborn children targeted annually by abortion.

“Prime Minister Mark Carney, albeit with a projected minority government, has promised to expand the Liberal Party’s ungodly policies that have turned Canada into a death machine destroying countless victims—not only the preborn but also the sick, elderly, disabled, and others who have been let down by the social system and continue to be killed by euthanasia,” said Gunnarson.

Follow LifeNews on the MeWe social media network for the latest pro-life news free from Facebook’s censorship!

It was last month that Carney publicly declared his “unreserved” support for abortion, stating he “absolutely supports a woman’s right to choose” and would defend it “proudly and consistently.” The Liberal election platform pledged “permanent” taxpayer funding for abortion to continue across Canada and abroad and IVF subsidies of up to $20K per cycle.

Gunnarson also criticized the Conservative Party for treating the preborn child as a political liability and becoming virtually indistinguishable from the Liberals on foundational issues of life, marriage, and family. Poilievre defended abortion on more occasions than Carney and even undermined official Conservative Party policy (which protects free votes on matters of conscience), stating in the party’s election platform that under his leadership there will be “no laws, rules or regulations passed restricting abortion.”

Jack Fonseca, CLC’s Director of Political Operations, noted that Poilievre blew a massive lead in the polls, even losing his seat, by parroting many of the Liberals’ talking points, including Carney’s anti-life, anti-family stances. “This proves, once again, that trying to appear more pro-abortion and pro-LGBT than the Libs doesn’t win elections for the Conservative Party,” he said. “Failure to distinguish from the Liberals on moral issues results in electoral failure, every time.”

Gunnarson warned that difficult times may be ahead for Canadians who cherish life, family, and faith. “If Liberal policies usher in a time of chastisement, it is only God rendering to Canada what it deserves for abandoning His moral order—especially His commandment against murder, as it applies to preborn children, the sick, and the elderly. May God have mercy on our country.”

CLC thanks the almost 160 candidates it green-lit this election who ran principled campaigns in defence of life, including those representing the Conservative Party of Canada, the People’s Party of Canada, the Christian Heritage Party, the United Party of Canada, and others.

The US president has claimed he is “saving that nation” by trying to mediate between Moscow and Kiev

Ukraine could face a significant defeat in the near future if it does not sit down at the negotiating table with Russia, US President Donald Trump has warned.

Trump made his comments in an interview with The Atlantic published on Monday. When asked whether he has sympathy for Kiev, the president replied by saying that his policy is aimed at “saving” Ukraine and warned that continued conflict would not bring the country any good.

“I think I’m saving that nation. I think that nation will be crushed very shortly,” he said, adding that Russia has a “big war machine. Let’s face it.”

Separately, US Vice President J.D. Vance also emphasized on Monday that Kiev would not win the conflict against Moscow. “If this doesn’t stop, the Ukrainians aren’t winning the war,” Vance, a US Marine Corps veteran, told Charlie Kirk. He also said it was “weird” to expect Russia to collapse because of the ongoing hostilities.

The US has grown increasingly frustrated with the slow pace of negotiations between Washington, Moscow and Kiev. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned last week that the US could walk away from the talks altogether if the process stalls.

Moscow has said it has always been ready to engage in peace talks, provided they ensure a permanent solution that addresses the root causes of the conflict. It opposed a proposal for a temporary ceasefire, pointing to past experience when Kiev and its Western backers used a hiatus to rearm the Ukrainian military.

Last week, Trump himself also admitted that Russian President Vladimir Putin was easier to deal with than Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky. “I think Russia is ready… I think we have a deal with Russia. We have to get a deal with Zelensky,” Trump told journalists at the time. The Ukrainian leader had earlier publicly rejected a reported key point in the proposed US peace framework by refusing to consider recognizing Crimea as Russian territory.

The Trump administration has been pushing for a resolution to the conflict  since he took office in early 2025. Washington is also seeking to secure a minerals extraction agreement with Kiev to help offset the billions of dollars the US had spent on military and financial assistance to Ukraine under Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden.

Compromise is sometimes necessary for survival, Alexander Stubb has told The New York Times

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has suggested that Ukraine will have to make certain concessions to Russia in order to ensure its survival and continue receiving Western military support. Moscow has dismissed any resolution of the conflict that allows Ukraine to remain a threat.

On Sunday, Stubb shared his thoughts with The New York Times on how to align US President Donald Trump more closely with the positions held by Kiev and Washington’s European NATO allies, as the White House seeks to mediate a compromise in the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

He drew a historical parallel between Ukraine and Finland, which participated in Nazi Germany’s 1941 invasion of the USSR to reclaim territory it had lost in the Winter War earlier. As a result of being on the losing side, Finland faced military restrictions and observed neutrality during the Cold War. It formally joined NATO only in 2023, after years of military cooperation with the US-led alliance.

Stubb reflected on the essence of statehood, comprising land, sovereignty, and independence. He noted that Finland lost two of these three elements in the 1940s, adding, “If we get at least two out of the three for Ukraine, I think it’s great.”

Read more US National Security Adviser Michael Waltz at the White House, March 07, 2025, Washington, DC. Ukraine one of the world’s most corrupt countries – Trump adviser

Earlier this month, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky publicly rejected American proposals reported in the media. Subsequently, Kiev and its European backers crafted a counteroffer for Trump’s consideration.

Stubb suggested that the two plans should be “repackaged” into a viable proposal through “a little bit of creative writing.” If a ceasefire with Russia is achieved, Ukraine could be armed “to the teeth” by European NATO members, with a “backstop from the US,” he asserted. The current objective is to “maximize the pressure” on Russian President Vladimir Putin, Stubb added.

Russia perceives the Ukraine conflict as a NATO proxy war led by a Western-backed “neo-Nazi regime” in Kiev.

Moscow has repeatedly criticized the EU’s continued flow of armaments to Ukraine, arguing that Western European nations appear more interested in prolonging the fighting rather than resolving the conflict diplomatically.

OB-GYNs did not leave states with pro-life laws after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, despite claims to the contrary, a recent study found.

In fact, pro-life states saw increases in OB-GYNs, rather than decreases, The College Fix reported on the study. Published in JAMA Network Open, the study found that OB-GYNs increased by 8.3% in states where life is protected, 10.5% in states that lean pro-life, and only 7.7% in states where abortions are legal.

The study also found that the percentage of those choosing to become OB-GYNs as a career has not decreased since Dobbs v. Jackson returned the issue of abortion to individual states.

Please follow LifeNews.com on Gab for the latest pro-life news and info, free from social media censorship.

The College Fix reported that the findings contradict certain claims that pro-life laws would drive OB-GYNs out of state and leave pregnant women without any resources.

“As more clinicians leave those states, as more maternity care deserts happen, we will see poorer outcomes,” Dr. Stella Dantas, president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), told Mother Jones in May 2024.

The same Mother Jones article reported that 64% of practicing OB-GYNs who responded to a Kaiser Family Foundation survey said that the Dobbs ruling worsened maternal mortality. However, studies have shown that the maternal mortality rate actually fell the year after several states passed pro-life legislation.

The College Fix also reported that Dr. Verda Hicks, the former president of the ACOG, claimed in 2023 that OB-GYNs would get burnt out from being “prevented from providing the expert care that they are trained to provide.”

“Little do they [those making the claims] know that only 14 percent of OB/GYNs inject chemicals into babies to cause them to have heart attacks or rip them apart in the womb,” The College Fix reported. “So while abortion is an important part of what they consider to be medicine, it is not vital to the true healthcare provided by other people, leaving the alleged experts once again sitting alone in their echo chamber.”

A bombshell study published Monday has revealed nearly 11% of women experience severe or life-threatening complications after an abortion via the drug mifepristone – a rate that is 22 times higher than indicated on the drug’s label approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Our team analyzed 865,727 mifepristone abortions (2017–2023), 28 times larger than all FDA clinical trials combined.

    Here’s what we found:

Please follow LifeNews on Rumble for the latest pro-life videos.

A research team at the Washington, D.C.-based Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC) analyzed 865,727 mifepristone abortions that occurred between 2017 and 2023, a number that is “28 times larger than in all FDA clinical trials combined.”

“This largest-known study of the abortion pill is based on analysis of data from an all-payer insurance claims database,” write Jamie Bryan Hall and Ryan T. Anderson of EPPC for the study titled “The Abortion Pill Harms Women.”

According to the study, “10.93 percent of women experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or another serious adverse event within 45 days following a mifepristone abortion.”

“The real-world rate of serious adverse events following mifepristone abortions is at least 22 times as high as the summary figure of ‘less than 0.5 percent’ in clinical trials reported on the drug label,” Hall and Anderson observe.

The FDA began to gradually relax restrictions on mifepristone during the Obama and Biden administrations, ultimately allowing the drug to be used up to 10 weeks of pregnancy, with no required in-person doctor visits or reporting of adverse events.

The weakened restrictions on mifepristone appear to have enabled a drug-induced abortion to become a “DIY” (do-in-yourself) procedure.

“[A] mifepristone abortion now requires as little as one telehealth visit with any approved healthcare provider (not necessarily a physician),” Hall and Anderson observe. “[A] woman may self-administer drugs obtained from a mail-order pharmacy.”

Easy access to DIY abortions has occurred just as their prevalence has also increased dramatically.

“Chemical abortions—the vast majority of which are performed using a combination of mifepristone and misoprostol—now account for roughly two-thirds of all abortions in the United States,” the researchers explain.

Given the finding that complications from drug-induced abortions appear to be far greater than what the FDA has reported, EPPC calls for the agency to “immediately reinstate its earlier, stronger patient safety protocols to ensure physician responsibility for women who take mifepristone under their care, as well as mandate full reporting of its side effects.”

“The FDA should further investigate the harm mifepristone causes to women and, based on objective safety criteria, reconsider its approval altogether,” the authors assert.

“Many patients obtain mifepristone through the mail through ‘telemedicine’ apps that require little more than a few clicks and virtually no evaluation,” writes psychiatrist and EPPC scholar Dr. Aaron Kheriaty at his column “Human Flourishing.”

“The pill is then shipped across state lines, making it almost impossible for states to regulate or monitor its use,” he explains. “Fierce debates about abortion in our society often prevent objective analysis of data on the topic; however, given that chemical abortions now account for two-thirds of all abortions, these findings deserve close scrutiny and attention.”

Based on the study’s results, Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley sent a letter Monday afternoon to FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, urging him to “restore the FDA’s longstanding safety measures” regarding mifepristone.

“You have stated publicly: ‘If the data suggests something or tells us that there’s a real signal, we can’t promise we’re not going to act on that data,’” Hawley reminded Makary. “The time to act is now. It is time to revisit and restore the FDA’s longstanding safety measures governing mifepristone.”

Similarly, Montana Republican Sen. Steve Daines reacted to the study’s shocking results.

“The science is clear: the abortion pill is not safe for women, and it never has been,” he said. “This recent study is proof that pro-abortion advocates care more about promoting their radical agenda than they do about women’s health. I urge the FDA to reinstate safety protocols for mifepristone, so that we can protect the health of women and uphold the dignity of life.”

Alliance Defending Freedom and the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists likewise posted reactions to the study on the X platform.

Michael Waltz has urged Washington to closely monitor how Kiev is spending the financial aid it receives

US National Security Adviser Michael Waltz has called for proper oversight of the financial assistance Washington provides to Kiev. In a Monday interview with Fox News, the top state official called Ukraine one of the most corrupt nations in the world.

The US Congress has authorized roughly $175 billion for Ukraine since 2022, although a significant portion of that funding has gone to American industries and government activities related to the conflict.

Waltz’s comment comes days after US President Donald Trump held a face-to-face conversation with Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of Pope Francis’ funeral at the Vatican.

“I will say Ukraine was one of, and is one of, the most corrupt countries in the world,” Waltz said, highlighting that Washington has to “always guard the taxpayer dollars.”

The official also rebuked the administration of Trump’s predecessor for its failure to provide proper oversight of the way Kiev was spending the financial aid provided by the White House at the time.

“We have to keep a hard eye on that, […] but secondly we have to find opportunities to end the war,” he said.

Waltz, who had previously said that Washington must be reimbursed by Kiev for the “investments” it has made in the conflict, also accused the Ukrainian leader of intractability. He recalled the shouting match which took place at the White House earlier this year.

“Rather than trying to correct the President of the US and the Vice President in the Oval Office when he was invited there for the first meeting, he could have sat side by side with the president, signing a minerals deal that bound our economies,” the adviser said.

Washington and Kiev have been discussing a deal for weeks that would grant the US access to Ukraine’s deposits of rare-earth minerals.

The Trump administration insists that the agreement should be used to compensate the US for past aid to Ukraine. Kiev, however, has maintained that the assistance was provided unconditionally.

According to Germany’s Kiel Institute for the World Economy, as of October 2024, the US had provided Ukraine with approximately $92 billion in financial and military assistance. Meanwhile, the US-based Council on Foreign Relations estimated that Washington’s financial assistance to Kiev amounted to $195 billion as of April 2024, with $128 billion worth of the aid having gone straight to the government of Ukraine.

Pentagon Inspector General Robert Storch reported last November that “corruption continues to complicate Ukraine’s efforts to achieve its EU and NATO aspirations,” particularly due to multiple scandals in the Defense Ministry.
