It is sad that there are what you might call professional Catholics who make a living on their Catholicism, but in whom the spring of faith flows only faintly, in a few scattered drops. We must really make an effort to change this.

Interesting take by Janet Baker on the need to address the killing of unborn children through a hollistic presentation of the Christian faith. I do not have enough knowledge on the particulars to comment on them, but I agree with her that authentic traditional Catholicism is the solution for all of society's ills - regardless of the society in question. I agree with her that every time we do not presnt a solution rooted in the Gospel we are failing boty individuals and society and setting ourselves up for problem down the line.
Supertradmum makes an interesting case on obedice to Rome: We must obey even when we think Rome is lenient and must not look down ont hose who praise the leniency of Rome (she writes primarily about indulgences). I agree with her, that Rome has a right to dispense with what falls under its control although I dispute her point about Catechisms. My understanding is that catechisms are not infallible and even the current Catechism of the Catholic Church is not mandated by Rome. It is possible to use others and therefore the Catechism of the Council of Trent ought to be just as valuable a teaching tool as the current one. I would not want to put other catechisms on an equal footing though as those are the only two which come from the highest authorities. Nontheless, it is worth nothing that Cardianal Ratzinger upon release of the catechism was keen to point out that it was not meant to displace regional catechisms - although it surely ought to in most cases.
She also posted an interesting piece on the Old Testament and how we must believe what it teaches not as myths but as truth.

Fr. Kloster. Inside the monstrance and tabernacle is Jesus, God Almighty, not His Name. Jesus and His Name are two different realities.
