In order to become a state Utah had to ban polygamy. The fact they're trying to decriminalize it is just the first step toward the Mormon Church allowing it again publicly.

Own comment: 

The slippery slope is very real and the people who start on it know this very well.

The arguments legalising sodomitical unions can and will be used to allow and propagate all manner of other perversions, and the sodomites and sodomy pushers who made them probably knew this very well.
