Yes of course the USA is going to attack Syria...and the UK will join in. Also as you point out, one would not know this from the MSM in particular the BBC...only from independent sources on the net.
Regrettably there is no point in my writing to my MP....it is Alistair Burt. I wrote to him after the last UK attack at the behest of a foreign country. He denied that was the case.

A good question is what Russia will do with the vast force its is now excising in the eastern part of its vast territory Will it start to be moved west if and when as predicted tensions rise.Meanwhile the public are totally oblivious to what is going on and cannot imagine it could actually impinge on their lives.. I thought we might be heading towards this last March at the time of the Skripals and that it would start to get scary in the summer and autumn.I imagine it will blow up quite suddenly perhaps using a clever iconic image of a dead child to push people towards the war option.Obviously Corbyns Labour party is aware of what is planned hence Thornburys question

More gatekeeping. Does Hitchens suppose us to understand that the Syrian Army is an Iranian proxy force, and that the HTS and ISIS belong to Saudi Arabia alone? The jihadists in Idlib are from all over Muslim central asia. True, some are disgruntled Syrian extremists who don't like the Westernised Syrian society, or sharing the land with Christians, but most are the remnants of what was essentially an invasion organised by US/UK Government - with a little help from the Sauds, Turkey, Israel and Qatar.

So, it's too late to write to an MP to stop a war in which the UK is involved. It's armed forces are already involved. Thousands were already killed. Of course, now the chickens might come home to roost, your MP will get to hear from you. So, by all means write, but to tell your MP that Britain is very close to getting a taste of its own medicine.

Thank you for being ever vigilant,Mr Hitchens. I believe History will not favour those who would ascribe histrionics to your well considered fears and opinions. Sleepwalking, indeed.

...

We should by all means be wary of lying politicians but no major nation ever fell into a war 'by accident'. WW1 happened because Germany wanted to knock Russia out before it became a major industrial power. Britain backed Russia in exchange for them not threatening India.

As for WW2 Mr Hitchens has already pointed out the machinations behind the facade of saving 'brave little Poland'.

I see no reason why China, America, Russia, Saudi Arabia or Iran have any reason to fight one another. There is no great looming resource shortage that would require a 'land grab'. Yes the Chinese are moving into places like the Spratly Islands but it's not as if the oil resources available there are not available elsewhere.

Humanity has moved on from the point where to use one example almost all of the world's rubber comes from the Malay Peninsular or almost all of the tea is grown in China. It's that sort of issue that sparks war not posturing politicians.

...

I agree with you totally I believe there will be another claim of chemical weapons use then an attack by the US and cohorts first on Syria then on Iran our whole strategy is to empower Israel and Saudi Arabia in the area and diminish Russian and Iranian power.
the sad truth is thousands or millions will die as a consequence of this in that area and possibly elsewhere to.
Over recent years there has been subtle evidence of the prelude to war at home too through the media with negative stories about Russians or Muslims or through constant praise and adulation of our armed forces ( they deserve some of course) but has been over zealous so the public are obedient when war occurs.

...

Thanks for the heads up on this Peter.

Once again you appear to be one of the few Journalists with integrity speaking out on this critical issue.

An ME conflagration, pitting Saudi Arabia, Israel & NATO V Syria, Iran, Russia, and possibly China is a horrifying proposition. Especially when it is part of the same incessant, geopolitical jostling between the so called "Great powers". Only this time it could spark the big one.

In many ways this region is so similar to the Balkans in the previous century, it's uncanny. This action cannot be allowed to happen.

...

Thank you for this, I have written.I was in Vietnam ten years ago with US veterans and spoke to many war victims, saw children born blind from agent orange. To think that this evil can be considered again is too much to bear.I saw Pearson Sharps report on you tube, he went to the hospital after the last reported "chemical attack" and all the staff said there was no attack. It feels that we have elected so many people who have no compassion and continually take us for fools that can be fed lies. Why are we so gullible ?

...

There is a problem at the moment of getting a nerve gas attack in Idlib making headline news in the USA as Hurricane Florence is poised to do a lot of damage in the Carolinas. It will have to be postponed.

...

It is illuminating that the Labour hierarchy thought it necessary to ask this question in Parliament. That even in the top levels of politics they believe that such a 'conspiracy' is possible. It says a lot for the lack of investigative journalism and total lack of plurality in the Western media today that people have to pre-warn of false flags in advance because they know that few critical questions will be asked in the media after the event has happened.

Own comment:

From perhaps the only remaining decent British journalist comes a desperate call to the Brits to write to their MPs and renounce any further U.K. aggression in Syria.

It is difficult to know what the British are playing at and it is quite obvious that Theresa May is being played by people far smarter than she is - which given how dumb she seems doesn't seem like a particularly tall order.

All I know is that this could end very badly, and the U.K. will not come out the winner if it does.
