Yes indeed it was the Holy Week services which were first mucked about. I remember it well. I actually first went to Rome for Holy Year 1950 and the Pope then was Pius XII.

Own comment: 

It is rarely that I disagree with the good Fr. Hunwicke, and this is not one of those occasions. I am simply incapable of understanding why some would-be traditionalists  hold Pope Pius XII in such high esteem, given that he appointed each and every one of the major figures of the Novus Ordo wrecking machine.

Pope Paul VI even served as his personal secretary, and Bugnini was also put in charge by Pope Pius XII to debase Holy Week, thus beginning the long trek towards what would be the full-blown apostasy-leading rite that is the Novus Ordo.

Any restoration of Catholic liturgy and devotional life must get rid of any of the reforms to the Roman Rite, which means we need to return to the Mass as it was at least before 1950, when the reformers got their hands on our most cherished prize.
