    Having 2 former superiors general as assistants is a great blessing. If Bishop Williamson or Father Joseph Pfeiffer had been awarded leadership positions, now that would be cause for great concern!

    No one has been awarded a leadership position. Those now occupying such positions, i. e. the Superior-General and his two assistants, have been elected to them in accordance with the statutes of the FSSPX, the former by a two-thirds and each of the two latter by a simple majority. It is not yet clear by what mechanism Bishop Fellay and Fr. Schmidberger are now said to be further members of a council of ‘advisers’ to the Superior-General, since the statutes do not seem to provide for such a body, but only for his two elected assistants as above.
    After Mass in Bonn to-day I heard two different theories on the de facto (extra-statutory) enlargement of the central governing body of the FSSPX:
    1) “because neither Fr. Pagliarano nor Bishop de Galarreta nor Fr. Bouchacourt speaks German”,
    as if any such difficulty could not adequately be dealt with at a lower level, and
    2) “so that Fr. Schmidberger, who is strongly opposed to any rapprochement while things remain as they are, can act as a counterweight to Bishop Fellay’s flirting with the present Rome”;
    but that difficulty arises only if Bishop Fellay is in a position to flirt. He had just been elected out of that position; now the defeated minority seems to have thrown the rule book (the statutes) away and brought off a coup d’État with the effect of giving him back a voice which had just been democratically denied to him by at least two-thirds of the capitulants.
    I see a certain distant parallel with Hitler’s Enabling Law of 1933, voted by the Reichstag just before the signing of the Concordat between the Holy See and the German Reich, on the Holy See’s side by Cardinal Pacelli, the later Pius XII.

    Lol. Well let’s hope so. But, really, at this point is there anything the SSPX could do that you’d think isnt a great blessing from God? They could announce plans to start teaching the New Mass in Latin at their seminary and you’d be like: ‘Yeah, that’s the ticket! That’s exactly what Archbishop Lefebvre would’ve done. Why didn’t I think of that?” For most of y’all, the apocalypse itself couldnt hurt the new & improved SSPX. It must be fun!

      The Novus Ordo branch of the Catholic Church have homosexual clergy including sodomite Cardinals like McCarrick and O'Brien. The SSPX have the alleged "problem" of Bishop Fellay and Father Schmidberger being elected Assistants General. Excuse me while I remove the splinter in those SSPX eyes.

    I think you're missing the point, Rory...but this is the problem; whenever anyone expresses concern that something bad may befall the SSPX, the partisan faithful lash out in self-defense against the messenger. Do you know the difference between loving the SSPX and not wishing anything to happen to it (as has happened to so many other trad groups that signed a deal with the Vatican) and attacking it? It seems to me we all need to pray for the SSPX and stop acting as if it's too big to fall. The human element of the entire Church is in chaos and various stages of apostasy today. Anyone who thinks the Devil isn't trying to bring down the SSPX in similar fashion--or that he NEVER could--is I think underestimating the power of the Evil One we face. Long live the SSPX.

      I agree that the underworld has their sights on the SSPX along with the wider Catholic Church. I just can't see how appointing Bishop Fellay and Father Schmidberger as assistants serves the devil's purposes.
