There is no contradiction between the two positions. What passes and has passed for a long time as "Christianity" in the U.S. is anything but, so a decline in it is good news. Conversely, an increase in authentic Roman Catholicism is good news. Indeed, the fake Christianity has to die for the real one to grow.
