I just caught the full letter as well on LifeSiteNews and the word " refusal" at the end of the letter was quite glaring.

The enemy is not Benedict XVl or JP ll. Their past mistakes are the past now.
And they were not all bad, they were not evil. Perhaps seduced into modernity, yes......but not evil.

This bunch IS. So forgive me if I am pontificating, but we had better " get it together" soon and renounce this heretical, communist tribe that masquerades in the name of mercy.

This is all so very cheap. It is all so very amateurish. The bishop of Rome must, indeed, be very insecure at his age and in his position to be hoping for a validation from his predecessor.

I guess one message for "Vatican II" types, Pope Francis, the entire Curia, all Cardinals and all Bishops, and really, 90% of priests is: There's no place to hide! Get your act (your Faith) together, boys, because you are as naked as jay birds.

As for Pope Francis, we can only wonder that he's been telling us for five years what he plans for Holy Mother Church and we have continued to ask ourselves if he knows what's happening, and if he approves.

It is we who are blind to the obvious if we keep trying to twist this man's "theology" into a continuity with Tradition - let alone what was taught yesterday.

The deceptions and scandals brought to us by the Bergoglian pontificate continue. What's different about this latest stunt is the Vatican (mis)communications department was caught red-handed in their dissemination of fake news. Even secular news media are waking up after years of fawning over the "People's (liberal) Pope".

This episode shows how desperate they are in their efforts to prop up the slowly sinking reputation of Francis. They just couldn't resist displaying the tempting morsel of Benedict's writing the words "profound" and "Francis" in the same sentence. Even if it meant they had to obscure and omit Benedict's refusal to recommend the "small" volumes. That picture of the books covering the letter just begs the question "What's under there?". It's Amateur Hour at the Vatican.

Yes, they stole Benedict's letter, which means there is every reason to think the confiscated letter was doctored even before it was photographed. The mainline media would have us think that the Vatican has now "bowed under pressure" and given us the full "authentic" text, but not so quick. Never underestimate Photoshop, and never underestimate the malice of a vile, possessed homosexual thief.

I don't believe the whole letter suddenly vindicates Ratzinger. It actually makes the contradiction more glaring. Benedict still praises Francis and continuity of their pontificates. He takes issue with a theologian who criticized the Magisterial writings of JPII and Benedict. He still gives a disingenuous answer about not having time to read the volumes.

In his mind, he sees no problem with supporting Francis and criticizing a theologian who wrote for him. That is because contradiction is at the core of Ratzinger.

In understanding Pope Benedict, one needs to also understand Roman and Italian culture.
In English, language is direct. Italians do not have the habit of stating something in a direct way. Things are expressed by Italians by innuendo, analogy or comparision or metaphor. One says that a man is great, wonderful, kind, but some suggestions are in order. One praises the good things, but mentions where some "improvement" could be made.
This way of expressing disagreement has roots all the way back to antiquity.
Merely by us reading Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar", and read Marc Antony's speech at Ceasar's funeral, we can see this speech pattern. It begins by praising Brutus and the Senate, "for they are honorable men".
This is not difficult to see that Pope Benedict is exposed to this Ancient Speech Pattern, living there for so many years.

Pre-VII councils were quite direct and many had a lot of Italian influence. Something else is at work here. "But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil." Matthew 5:37

Own comment:

The rot at the Vatican comes from the very top. We should not be surprised that they are lying to prop up Bergoglio's failure and narcicisstic tendencies.
