For many people today, practical atheism is the normal rule of life...If this attitude becomes a general existential position, then freedom no longer has any standards, then everyting is possible and permissible.

If this appointment of Amy Coney Barrett pays off, then it might well make up for Trump's ineffectiveness elsewhere.
However, I am wary of it as there have been too many false hopes among judges appointed by Republicans. Pretty much the only thing going for her as far as I can tell is that she has 7 children and clerked for Scalia, so her morals are good on the life issues, we should presume, and her legal sensibilities are likely to be solid. The claim is that she is a strict federalist, so that may help rein in the centralisation of power.
As for her fortitude and resolve for the quest of justice, we shall find out soon enough.
