I’m sure China is terrified at the prospect of confronting a bunch of woke fat snowflakes in poorly built ships.

Is there any original information about those detention camps in western china? A simple google serach reveals photos of travel bloggers visiting the region and it seems absolutely OK to me. Of course, that doesn’t mean things are not happening in the dark, but there seems to be little real evidence apart from the usual “disturbing reports” claims.

China is, for the most part imo, using the outdated terra nullius law to create more sovereign space for itself. 300 years ago a rock in the sea was not enough to become territory, now you can build a city on it.

The Americans are just pissed that they didn’t think of it first, and they are too dumb to just do the same thing on all the a-territorial rocks around the planet. You’d think with their fleet they could get some interesting strategic real estate here or there!

Lob a couple of nuke missiles. lets see if they want to play. worst can happen is
we lose a lot of “woke” folk on the west coast in retaliation. Then again…that ain’t the worst.

These reports, said Pompeo, “are sadly consistent with decades of CCP practices that demonstrate an utter disregard for the sanctity of human life and basic human dignity.”

How dare China steps into American territory of “utter disregard for the human sanctity of human life and basic human dignity. It is the US and only US and maybe Israel’s right to show utter disregard for the sanctity of human life (bombing in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Somalia and Afghanistan) and basic human dignity (Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo). Israel has its share of utter disregard for the sanctity of human life by bombing on Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Iran, and Killing Irani scientists and engineers. It also shows disregard for human dignity by looting Palestinian homes, killing women, children, sick and handicaps.

Pompeo is a fool, who along with Netanyahu is trying very hard to start a war before the election. Whether war with Iran (Israel is trying very hard to start one) or a war with China (Pompeo issuing red lines), the result will be equally devastating to both countries. Pompeo thinks he can bully China.

The US, the West, encourages, & provisions people like the Uyghurs to make trouble, commit terrorist acts, & Hong Kongers to stage massive non-stop acts of civil disobedience & lo & behold China responds with repression, in exactly the way hoped for — ie fodder for major negative PR campaigns. Which in turn is a wonderful opportunity for more “cold war”.
But does the US want to turn cold to hot war ? No …. but, I don’t think they’d turn down the opportunity if the Chinese gave them a “perfect” casus belli either.

Have we considered where all our belated bellicosity toward Beijing must invariably lead, and how this all ends?

If we are not careful, to Davy Jones’ Locker.

China sent a welcome note to the carriers:
“China has a wide selection of anti-aircraft carrier weapons like DF-21D and DF-26 ‘aircraft carrier killer’ #missiles. South China Sea is fully within the grasp of the #PLA; any US #aircraftcarrier movement in the region is at the pleasure of PLA.”

It will be interesting to see if the Aegis destroyers can defend against the East Wind (東風 Dong Feng) missiles. The 21D is hypersonic, up to Mach 10.

A rehash of Mr. Buchanan’s June 19 column. Notice how he again parrots Mr. Pompeo’s propaganda under cover of practical, “we we we” questions like these:

Should we start issuing war guarantees to China’s neighbors? Should we start putting down red lines China will not be allowed to cross?

Before we plunged into our half dozen Middle East wars, we didn’t think through where those would end. Have we considered where all our belated bellicosity toward Beijing must invariably lead, and how this all ends?

The message, as always, is that Uncle Sam would be in charge of an ideal world. So I’ll cut & paste from my comment last month, too:

Mr. Buchanan throws things like this, often piously, into the propaganda to fool his dwindling fans. Any other reasonably informed reader of this column sees that he is carrying Beltway water, shamelessly and hypocritically increasing the likelihood of more death and destruction.

The United States needs to start minding ITS OWN BUSINESS and stop meddling in the affairs of other countries’ business. Like the Bible says, worry about the mote in YOUR OWN eye before you worry about the speck in your neighbor’s.

Over the years, the United States has GIVEN China its technology, exactly as it did with Russia after the Bolshevik revolution in 1917 (see works of Antony Sutton, Ph.D. – now deceased). In addition, the United States has sent over to Chine billions of dollars so that we could import Chinese-made crap and in the process, shut down all of our American industries and make the rich even richer.

I believe that the C.I.A. is the world’s largest terrorist organization, whose only purpose is for the furtherance of the Big Money Interests of the world, NOT for the preservation of our freedom.

NONE of the politicians in either national political party of the United States speak for me. And I also am going on record as saying that none of the crimes that the C.I.A. has committed over the years was done on or for my benefit.

I am a 69 year-old retired industrial electrician. The country that I THOUGHT I grew up in and worked in never existed, except in my mind. I am ashamed to be an American!

...

I have no doubt America could win a naval war with China … seriously! It would be a turkey shoot, at least until right up to the point a couple ChiCom satellites detonate and unleash EMP over 85°W and 120°W … Sure, our warfighters will still rage on against the Red Menace from their hardened command centres and forward-deployed assets, but roughly 250 million Americans will be stewing in their un-air-conditioned lockdown cells with no juice for their iToys, and that will be game over for the US as a functioning government, as it shot its wad poking at the Big Panda.

We can do this Lao Tzu, or they will do it Sun Tzu.

...

Emslander says:

I have an idea. Just have enough of a Navy to be able to sail out and defend our true interests when they’re threatened. We don’t need 11 or 12 Carrier Attack Groups, like we now have. They are astronomically expensive and fundamentally wasted. How have these Groups done in all the wars we’ve lost since WWII?

End all cold wars and cold war threats! Just be a real country again!

Own comment:

In between the occasional white supremacist comment at the Unz - far fewer than they are at ZeroHedge, it must be noted - we find quite a lot of reasoned comments. The standard of the comments is certainly very high and the opinions are varied.

As for Pat Buchanan, he poses very many questions but he very rarely seems to give any answers. Also, he seems to have absorbed all of the americanist propaganda points one may want to shove into any unthinking man, all the while seeming to wonder why everything around him is burning up. It's almost amusing to see in that sense - someone whose instincts point right but whose political cognitive dissonance does not allow him to apportion blame to the right folks when it really counts, and even worse, parrots the baseless accusations and subject points which bring about the conflicts he seems to want to avoid in the first place.
